“Anyway,” Elizabeth began, “I’m going to New Orleans, and I need backup,” she said to her brother. “Callen is handling a case with Chris, and everyone is out now. I was going to join my husband to help find a killer, but I have to take a side trip. Want to join me?”
Ethan stared at her.
“Uh, and what am I?” he asked. “Chopped Native liver? I’m standing right here.”
She winked at him.
“I don’t know, Ethan. Your ex is there. That makes me want to bust both of your asses so, of course, you’re going, Handsome. I love watching a man fawn over you. It’s sexy.”
He laughed.
“Har-har. I’m going to put someone over my knee soon, and it’s not going to be my ex.”

Elizabeth loved when this man got bossy in bed. Ironically, so did his ex. Only, she couldn’t blame Gene Cantrell.

“You’re my cover,” she admitted. “Duke can walk around without anyone really noticing him, but you and I are going in pretending we’re working.”
That was a good cover.
“You know how us showing up at the Hotel Monteleone is normal. Plus, they have four dead people. We have to mitigate this before I’m legitimately sent in.”
“She has a point,” Axelle said.
Elizabeth knew she did.
She continued.
“Duke is going to be my intermediary in case I can’t be out on the street. We’re too familiar to the world, but this tall drink of lumberjack water can blend. Mostly.”
She wasn’t wrong.
“I’m in,” Duke said. “As long as Axelle sits her ass here.”
His wife stared at him.
“You realize I’m her boss, right? I just don’t deal with The Hunters. That’s her baby.”
Elizabeth pointed at Ethan, passing the buck.
“Technically, it’s his. I got saddled in this rodeo, against my best judgment.”
Ethan wasn’t taking the blame.
“I made them for you,” he countered. “Zayn Thundercloud is for your amusement. That was supposed to be the gift that kept on giving. See how that worked out?”
She snorted.
Yeah, that was the truth.
Lewis knew that if they were heading in, they likely would have this under control.
