“I need a mercenary. It’s to abduct some annoying people in New Orleans.”

This was funny.

Yeah, he’d worked with this person before when the government had asked him to. He was very familiar with her.

It was all kinds of ironic too.

Artemis Dubois.

There were times that he couldn’t believe how goddamn lucky he got.

Maybe it was luck rubbing off from the Irish mob man, but this was a gift from the universe for him, and The Hunters.

“Okay,” he said, keeping it short and sweet. He did it for a few reasons. One was to keep the other person in the dark, and the second was because, with the age of technology, he didn’t want anyone to be able to clone his voice and use it against him.

Was he paranoid?

Yes.

And he was good with that.

“Who?”

Artemis kept talking.

“It’s a couple. He was a cop, and she used to be an FBI tech. I need them grabbed and held for a little bit of time. I don’t plan on killing them. It’s leverage.”

He was careful.

“Who?”

Yeah, he was damn sure this was Artemis. What were the chances someone with a German accent was on his phone, asking about two Hunters?

Yeah, no coincidence there.

“Merry and Boone Savage. You’ve come highly recommended. I’m sure you can find them.”

Oh, he could.

That wasn’t a problem.

Unfortunately for Artemis, he was currently working for Elizabeth. She was paying him well, and that meant she’d bought his loyalty.

“Pay?”

She didn’t hesitate.

“One million. They can’t die, and they have to be delivered alive tomorrow night to an address I will get to you after you have them in your possession. Are you in?”

Oh, he was in alright.

In for a full-on chuckle. This was going to be his easiest capture yet. Knowing Maura, she’d want to know about this.

He altered his voice.

“I need half up front.”

There was no hesitation.
