This was about to be a feeding frenzy.

Thanks to his blood.

Chapter Sixteen

Kurt Purcell’s Home

The Standoff

Afternoon

H is heart was thumping in his chest, and Lewis didn’t like the odds in this. Oh, he was a fast draw, but then again, so were two Snakes. They were the sister unit created to be the polar opposite of the Spiders.

From the tattoos on both of their arms, there was no doubt they had a lot of kills under their belts.

In fact, more than he had.

At that point, it was about talking everyone down. So, he did what he could.

Lewis tucked away his gun.

“I’m sorry I came in behind you. I was watching this house and them. I knew there were three, and I didn’t want to have one of you get ambushed.”

Because he wasn’t armed, they followed suit and both put away their guns too.

“It’s dangerous to sneak up on us,” Adder said.

He was honest.

“I was trying to help.”

The only thing saving this man was that Maura and Jagger liked him. He’d been a part of their unit, so they wouldn’t kill him for shits and giggles.

“We had this before you came in,” Adder admitted. “We didn’t ask for a spider to lurk around.”

He laughed.

“You guys are a tough room to work. You realize we’re on the same side, right?”

Oh, they had news for him.

“We don’t play sides. We protect our family, and up to yesterday, you never existed in their world,” Jinx admitted.

Well, that was then.

Reaper wasn’t abandoning Maura and Jagger. Despite her saying he didn’t owe her, he did.

He’d stick around and keep them safe. With Alexsandr coming, they needed him.

So, he decided to change the subject. Lewis would have to charm the Snakes later.

“Can you guys handle this?” he asked. “I have to get in. There’s a guy upstairs unconscious. He was going to shoot you. I figured the Major wouldn’t be pleased.”

They didn’t have to say anything.

Maura was saying plenty over the com—and in their ears.

“Copy, Major,” Mamba stated.
