But it went dead.

“Okay, we have confirmation. Remmy was outside this building, and somehow, he managed to get the jump on the three guys.”

“We’re going swamping, aren’t we?” Jagger asked.

What choice did they have?

Remmy was family, and all things pointed to him taking Calyx into the swamp to play a sick game of hide-and-seek.

“Yep.”

Oh, well, never let it be said that their lives weren’t exciting and full of shit that no one else would even consider doing—like tangling with gators in a swamp at night.

“When we find her,” Jagger began, but was cut off.

“No. While I get that she’s gunning for us, and that pisses you off, Artemis is his to handle,” Maura admitted. “We promised him revenge for his wife’s and child’s death. If she went for Calyx, she’s Remington’s now. If she called a hit on her, and she hurt Calyx, this is part two of the revenge.”

He got it.

That was fair.

“As long as she’s handled, I’m good,” he said. “He’s our brother.”

Yes, yes, he was.

She was about to say something else when she heard Eve.

“Uh, Major, we have a situation,” she said, peeking back in the door.

Maura focused on her.

“What?”

“The room dimensions didn’t look right to me. So, I went back out and found something, and it’s hella wrong on so many levels.”

She was curious.

They left the room, careful not to trigger the tripwire.

When she saw Jinx, not far from where they were, she pushed on a wall, and it moved.

“There’s a room attached to this.”

They moved toward it, and inside, she scanned it.

There was a bed, and on the headboard, there were restraints, and also at the foot of the bed.

Only, that wasn’t the worst part.

“Take off your night vision,” she said, and they all did what she asked.

Then, she hit the lights.

What she saw…

HORRIFYING.

The walls were covered with pictures—not random ones either. They were of a smiling woman and girl.
