“Then, let’s get him out.”

Maura knew the timeline.

“If we get to him by three in the morning, we can be out by dawn if we don’t have any issues.”

Well, that was her hope.

They had to keep this shitshow going, and the Russian was coming Friday.

Time was running out.

“Sounds like a plan,” Wolf offered. “Hope you all are good with gators,” Wolf said, his Cajun accent out as he quickly pulled his rifle and shot a gator as it came up out of the water.

They all jumped.

“Too bad we can’t bring him back. He was a fat boy. I like my gator breaded in cornmeal.”

Yeah, pass.

Jagger looked over at his wife and shook his head. They might have found someone who was crazier than Zayn.

Who would have seen that coming?

Certainly, not them.

“I really hate swamps,” she said as something swam by her legs underwater.

Jagger laughed.

“Déjà vu.”

Exactly, and it wasn’t a good one either.

Chapter Twenty

Middle Of The Swamp

Cabin

Midnight

O h, Calyx was scared shitless. This was something she never thought she’d see. Not only were they stuck in the middle of the bayou, gators banging into the building, but there was a storm rolling in.

There was lightning.

Thunder.

And she was worried.

Remington had been sleeping since she stitched him up, got some food in him, and made sure he was comfortable.

Now, she knew it was the worst-case scenario.

He had a fever.

She could see the beads of perspiration, and she knew that she needed to keep him cool.

She killed the fire, and now, it was cold and ominous in the swamp.
