He didn’t hesitate.

“Absolutely. Like I still love Preston. Like I still love you. I can love more than one person, and I can still be loyal and faithful. Maybe you can’t Tommy, but I can be.”

Well, so much for hoping he’d had a change of heart.

“I guess then, this is goodbye.”

Gene had one thing left to address, and he wasn’t playing around.

“Tommy?” he asked.

“What?”

Gene laid down the law. If Tommy could hand out ultimatums, for his benefit, Gene could too.

“If you come for my family, or you hurt any of The Hunters…I will come back, and I will be mean. If you come within ten feet of Ethan, and even give him shit about what is our issue, I’ll get vicious. He’s off limits, as is Elizabeth. Don’t do it. There’s my ultimatum. You had yours, and now, you have mine.”

And with that, he hung up.

Tommy stared at the phone in his hand. His whole heart ached over all of this. They’d been so close to getting married, and maybe, just maybe, they could have made this work.

That was if Ethan Blackhawk kept his hands off of his man.

God.

He really hated him.

Now, it appeared that Tommy was on his own. It was time to prove that he wasn’t the weaker of the two. Bottom in bed did not mean bottom in life.

Not.

At.

All.

Tommy was starting his life over.

And this time, he would make it count.

Meanwhile…

As he hung up from the call, Gene handed Ethan the phone.

“I need a new number. I can’t keep doing this,” he whispered. “I need to be alone.”

Ethan could do that for him.

When Gene walked away, heading to the room that he’d been sleeping in earlier, he paused at the door.

“I’m afraid.”

Ethan stood there.

“Of?”

“I’m going to be alone for the rest of my life, and I don’t know how to accept that. I feel so empty.”

Ethan headed his way.
