When he reached him, Gene turned. Ethan did the only thing he could.

He pulled him into his arms and held him as he cried. Gene tucked his face into his neck and clung to him as if he was the only way he was going to survive.

“Please don’t ditch me,” he whispered.

Ethan heard him and whispered in his ear.

“Never, Gene. I promise.”

His body shook in grief.

“It’s going to be okay,” Ethan said as he held him in his arms.

“How do you know?” Gene whispered.

Ethan wasn’t sure.

Only, he knew that fate always had a way of working out.

Eight A.M.

Operation Time

I t was quite the operation to move the Director of the FBI into position anywhere, but when it came to New Orleans, that was even more difficult. She wasn’t exactly safe walking the streets. On top of that, she was easily recognizable.

So, her Archangels were making sure they were all over her. Imagine the fun when she was walked into a strange building, filled with trigger-happy mercenaries.

Oh, it was interesting.

The only thing that kept it calm was Elizabeth was already there.

“Hey, Red Queen,” she said, sliding her a coffee on the island as everyone around them watched her like she was a bomb-wielding killer.

She didn’t take it.

She saw something she wanted more.

HER HUSBAND.

“Duke,” she said, going into his body as he enveloped her into him.

“Hey, Baby,” he said, cuddling his wife against him. He’d missed her, and he was grateful she was here. While this was the last place he wanted her, he couldn’t help that he’d missed her terribly. “How are Charlotte and Abby?” he asked.

“They miss their daddy.”

Axelle glanced behind her.

“You guys can bring her in,” she said to her Archangels. “I’ll be good.”
