“I can’t relive that.”

He turned.

It was time.

Tommy wasn’t waiting to be hurt. He was pulling the plug on this, here and now.

“Then we are at the end of our path as a couple,” Tommy said. “Unless you’re willing to understand that I don’t like the idea of you being that close to your ex…and that I have to work as A COP…”

Gene held firm.

“Okay then, Tommy. Remember this was your decision. You broke up with me. All I wanted was to postpone the wedding until we worked this out.”

And with that, Gene grabbed his gun, tucked it into his holster, and clipped that to his jeans.

Then, he walked out.

Away from the man he’d wanted to marry.

And into the unknown.

The Russians who were heading to New Orleans, and the fact that Artemis Dubois had bought up all the mercenaries and guns she could.

Why was the question.

Only, there was no answer to it yet.

Everything they were finding out seemed to only give them more questions.

It was as if they were being left in the dark.

Well, they’d been in worse positions before. For now, it was time to get to work.

They needed to be focused on their longevity, and as Maura knew, they were likely losing two of their team. Gene and Tommy wanted out, and who were they to stop them?
