They’d done their duty, helped take down El Gato, and they deserved to move on.

That meant they would have to figure out how to run with two fewer people.

Maura had been in worse situations, so this was just going to be a small inconvenience. While they enjoyed having Gene with them since he’d been down and dirty working in NOLA, Tommy had been cranky lately.

They could all see his discontent. You’d have to be blind not to see it.

Someone was not happy.

Only, they didn’t know why.

Well, that would likely come out too at some point. It always did.

As for the rest of the team, they were ready to go.

The whole family had arrived, and all that they were waiting for was Tommy and Gene so that they could start the day.

It was a new day and the same problem. They were trying to shore up their defenses for the oncoming storm. When the Russians arrived, there was no doubt it would get bloody.

The Russian mob…

They were mean.

In the hierarchy of badassery, the Russian mob was only second to Mikey O’.

The original and the second one.

They needed to be on guard.

“Coffee,” Remington muttered. “It was a long night,” he admitted.

Oh, they bet.

Someone was busy watching a certain barkeep, and they knew why.

He had an affliction that only sex was going to cure. Remington needed to get past the fact that his wife had died, and that it wasn’t his fault.

He’d done everything to protect them.

Only, they could say that over and over again, and it wouldn’t matter.

If he didn’t believe it, he wouldn’t heal.

This was on his time.

And only his time.

Maura poured him a cup and handed it to him because he genuinely looked tired.

“Rough one?” she asked.

He actually laughed.

“You have no idea.”

Maura offered up what she could because she knew that Jinx had already talked to him about this.

“You can tell us what’s on your mind,” she said.
