She shook her head.

“She likely dosed you with Addiction. What were you doing right before?”

He thought back.

“I was meeting her at the hotel, so I could get some intel from our boss to go back out into the field. She poured me a…”

She likely put addiction all over something you touched, or you ingested it.”

He was angry.

“She drugged me both days?” he asked.

She nodded and sat beside him as she held his hand.

“You didn’t willingly sleep with her, Remmy. She had to use very little on you the second day, and you were still wild from the Addiction the night before.”

A tear slipped down his cheek.

“She had them killed because she liked to win and wanted revenge because you turned her down. She wanted you, and she knew you’d never leave Karen and Kelsy to be with her. She wanted to break you, and she did.”

He wiped his eyes.

“Did she ever,” he said. “It’s been ten years.”

She was aware.

“I’m sorry I had to tell you. Lying won’t heal you. This will.”

He looked over.

“No, thank you. I needed all the pieces to this so I can let it go. I never knew how they were found. She must have taken a picture of the picture and asked around. Because the house was in Karen’s maiden name. I hid them. I hid them well.”

She wiped his cheek.

“I know, Remmy.”

He stared at her.

“I want her to pay.”

There was only one way to do that.

“Then live. Then find joy, get married again, and rejoice in Karen and Kelsy’s life. You happen to have a girl who loves you. She fought to stay awake so she could free you in the van. Live and celebrate that together.”

He looked at the picture on the counter.

“Do you think that she forgives me?”

“Yes. Would you forgive her?”

He didn’t hesitate.

“Absolutely.”

Then, there was his answer.

“The best revenge is having a good life. I know that’s true for me. I chased revenge, but when I forgave and accepted, I was able to heal. You need to forgive and move on.”
