“Well, if we find her.”

Oh, well, that was why she brought the wicked bitch betrayer there.

“We have her.”

He looked over.

“Where?”

She pointed down.

“I was gonna let Maura beat her to death, but it seemed like since she did your wife and kid dirty, and I promised you closure, this has to be about you.”

He stood up.

“I want to see her. I need to see her.”

That she understood.

“Okay.”

Together, they went downstairs. Not far away, in a cell, she was sitting in a chair, and she was a mess. Both arms were broken, and her pretty face was pretty no more.

When she lifted her head, she laughed.

“Oh, well, I was wondering how this would end,” she admitted. “Why am I not shocked?”

He ignored her.

Remington had to know. He needed to know that it wasn’t something he did that got his wife and child killed. He needed to know that he didn’t fuck up.

“Did you betray my child and wife to El Gato?” he asked.

She laughed.

And laughed.

And laughed.

“Of course I did. I was so fucking sick of seeing how happy you were, and I wanted that happiness—or to destroy it,” she admitted.

Then, she tried to hurt him.

Big surprise.

“She screamed a lot. I heard all about it. I also made sure the guerillas knew where the Marines would be, and I helped El Gato. He made me rich.”

“So you played both sides?”

She grinned through her bloody mouth.

“Yes, because we’re CIA, and that’s what we were trained to do.”

He stood there.

Elizabeth knew this was up to Remmy.

Then, he did what she expected. She knew the man he was, and she was proud of him.
