He blinked.

“Are you serious?”

She nodded.

“Yep. I said I couldn’t go out and get a beer with you, but you never asked if you could come to my place. No one would have seen us out, and I wouldn’t have to worry about them accusing me of breaking the rules.”

He just sat there.

“I could have had my sexy Major years ago?”

She nodded.

“God damn it,” he said. “Rem, don’t listen to me. I’m an idiot.”

Maura gave him a kiss.

“But you’re my idiot.”

He snorted.

“Listen to the family,” Dakota said, finally speaking up. “I could have been happily married before I was had I just listened.”

Eve agreed.

“Listen to the ladies. We know best.”

He was seeing that.

“Thanks,” Remington offered. “It means a lot that I can just talk to you guys, and not feel weird about it. After I lost Kelsy and Karen, I didn’t have a family.”

Jagger was curious.

“Are you staying here in NOLA?”

He nodded.

“I love it here. This is my home now. Why?”

“Can I make a suggestion?” he asked.

Remington finished his muffin.

“Sure.”

“Move their bodies here. Take Calyx to their new graves, and introduce them. I have a feeling that if Karen could tell you, she’d approve. When our spouses died,” he said, glancing over at Maura, “we put their ashes in our new home as we went surfing. We brought our worlds together, and it healed.”

She agreed.

“I know that while Luke would love to be here with me, he’s happy for me. He knows that Jagger was meant to be the path.”

Jagger smiled.

“I know Roxy is happy Maura is raising Dianna and making me happy. If not, she’d be haunting this damn house.”

She snorted.

“We are in the most haunted city in this country, and you put that out there?” she asked. “Are you nuts?”
