“What could happen with two snakes, a Spider, and a room full of mercenaries. I mean, that’s pretty self-explanatory.”
He was amused by her since he’d been her boss, and he knew what she was capable of on a good day.
“Exactly,” he said. “We don’t need a war being led by my badass in boots. Behave,” he said, touching her cheek with his free hand.
“I love you.”
She winked.
“I love you, too, Handsome.”
Now, Ethan knew that it was time to make a break for it. Heading toward Gene, he patted him on the back.
“Let’s take a walk,” he said, his voice low. “You’re about to blow and you need to get some shit off your chest. I can tell.”
Gene didn’t argue.
Why?
He was right.
While he didn’t mind Tommy being angry with him, he wasn’t going to let him take shots at Ethan. That was NEVER happening.
Ethan never took cheap ones at Tommy.
There were rules of engagement in a war, and they had to be followed.
Also, the further from Tommy, the better. The last thing he wanted was for their relationship to explode in front of the family, and it became fodder.
Eventually, everyone would find out that he was leaving the family.
As soon as they were gone, Elizabeth got to work, knowing they needed to make sure this was handled correctly. She trusted Maura and Jagger, but she had to stay here to make sure nothing blew up.
Well, nothing they weren’t trying to blow up.
“We have very little time to handle this. Apparently, we all know that this is connecting.”
They were having coffee and talking it out.
“What do you know?” Maura asked since she was going to have to make sure her family was safe. “We need the full picture.”
There was no doubt that it was only a matter of time before it went to Hell.
It always did.
“MATE,” Elizabeth said, activating the software in the house. It heard her voice and did its thing.
“Yes, Deputy Director?”
“Holographic mode. I need visuals.”
At her command, the screen came alive, and Zayn jumped. Standing in front of them, there was a picture of someone, but it was so lifelike.
“WHAT THE HOLY FUCK?” he asked, blinking to make sure it was legit there.
She explained.
“MATE has had some upgrades. This mode is only available to me and Axelle, for now. MATE will do this across the board at some point. The FBI is going high-tech.”
