Elizabeth showed them.

“Mate, file X, classified number one, seven, nine, three, four, Blackhawk, Elizabeth Renee.”

The file opened on the screen, and there was the answer to the question—or what she believed to be the answer. In her experience, if there was smoke…

Look for the fire.

They stared at the screen.

“Are those financials?”

They were.

More importantly, they were financial statements dating back years ago. Elizabeth hadn’t found this information in the local databases or files.

These were top security clearance cases that only certain people had access to.

And they related to what?

Two particular deaths of a Russian woman.

Alexsandr’s mother.

“When I was told about the four dead citizens of the city,” she said, pointing at Reaper. “I didn’t know they connected to this case. I mean, my first gut instinct was that the Russian and Artemis were building a coffer by kidnapping people, but it’s more.”

“What?” Jagger asked.

She showed them.

“Detective Jonathan Denmark was the one who investigated the homicide of Anna Dominik.”

Oh, boy.

Yep.

This was all connected.

It was there in black and white.

Her hologram appeared, and she stood there in her designer suit, with fake blonde hair, and a diamond-encrusted ‘D’ hanging around her neck.

She screamed rich Russian to her toes.

“That was the woman I took out for the CIA,” Jinx admitted. “I won’t forget that face. I stared at her through a scope, and I wondered what she did to have the government call out a hit.”

“She was the wife of a foul general, and just as wicked,” Elizabeth admitted. “I can’t give you those details because…”

“Let me guess,” Zayn said. “They are classified.”

She stared at him.

“Who broke you? The files are missing, you nut.”

He pointed at Jagger and Maura.

“THEM!”

She just shook her head and continued.
