Stella sputtered.

“Uh, yeah, did he just hit on my husband?” Stella asked.

Maura just laughed.

Elizabeth, Jagger, and Maura all knew that the man was as straight as the day was long.

Reaper had done one hell of a dance with Axelle George before she’d married Duke.

“Imagine how I feel,” Duke said, breaking his silence. “He’s slept with my wife. If anyone wants to strangle him with his own tongue and dick, it’s me.”

Dakota laughed.

“Ahhh, the LaRue genes are prominent with this one. It’s not just the eyes and hair. It’s the bad attitude.”

She winked at her brother.

Wasn’t that the truth?

When it was safe to talk, Jagger lowered his voice and was honest.

“Elizabeth, you’re the ONLY one who knows about mine and Maura’s home. No one is to know. That’s where we’re moving everyone.”

She figured as much.

“You can trust Reaper. I do explicitly.”

“We do trust him, but we’re paranoid on a good day. Today is NOT a good day.”

She got it.

Mum was the word.

Elizabeth looked at her watch.

“Okay, I’m going to head to the police precinct to do what I do best. I need to lay cover for my Hunters,” she said. “When Ethan gets back from his mission,” she began, “Have him meet me at our base. He’ll know where it is.”

Before she could walk away, Tommy stopped her.

“Can I join you? I know my way around there, and I have to speak to you.”

They all knew about what.

You’d have to be blind not to see that Tommy was irritated whenever Ethan Blackhawk was around and that he was not happy as a Hunter.

“Uh, sure, but if you annoy me, I’m dumping your ass on the side of the road somewhere.”

“In a ditch?” he asked.

She laughed.

“No, likely on a park bench. I’m not sure what you’ve heard about me,” she offered, “but I don’t kill people. I find people who kill people.”

They all began laughing.

In fact, she did too.

Who the hell was she kidding?
