“Mr. Remington, Sir,” Jim called before he even reached Kyle’s new pity excuse for a room.

Kyle’s head snapped up, his whole body on high alert. Without realizing, he reached for his gun, ready to abandon the building at a moment’s notice.

When Jim saw him, he put two and two together and wildly shook his head. “There’s no danger, Sir,” he said quickly, then did something very surprising given the grievous circumstances they found themselves in. Jim’s lips curled up into a smile, but because of his ugly and monstrous face, it looked more sinister than anything else. “I have good news.”

Kyle perked up at that. “What is it? Did we get our hands on Sienna? Is she dead? Is one of the Carrington fuckers dead? There are so many things that would make me happy right now so you’re going to have to be more precise.”

Lucky for Jim, Kyle wasn’t in one of his moods, and actually found himself to be rather patient. His henchman was smart enough not to exploit his good fortune and jumped straight to the point.

“We won’t need to wait at all,” Jim started, his voice full of excitement. “I’ve heard through the grapevine that Mrs. Remington will go to the office today to meet up with her lawyers. The Aghayan company is in the middle of some big deal and her presence is needed for it to go down.”

“Are you sure?” Kyle asked, his eyes burning with wild excitement that in his case screamed bloody murder.

“Yes, Sir,” Jim nodded, confirming his intel. “No doubt whatsoever.”

“Excellent,” Kyle said with a smile and rubbed his hands together as he paced up and down the room. “What about the bomb?”

“It’s taken care of,” Jim assured him.

“And the plan?”

“Failproof.”

Kyle met Jim’s eyes and grinned. “Let’s go kill my wife.”

“You’re going to make an excellent widower, Sir,” Jim complimented him with a grin of his own.

After careful consideration, Kyle had decided to only take one car. A big group could easily be spotted, but one shitty car wouldn’t be suspicious. Kyle knew he should’ve stayed back, but he wanted to see it done with his own eyes. Today was a good day to be blown up.

Jim stopped the car across the street from Sienna’s new office building. They didn’t need to wait long to see a black SUV with the Carringtons’ license plate.

“Why didn’t it stop? Where is she going?” Kyle asked with a hint of frustration in his voice after Sienna’s car drove past the entrance without showing any signs of slowing down.

“I assume that after the failed assassination attempt on your sister-in-law, they don’t want to take any chances,” Jim said, thinking out loud. “There’s a parking garage behind it, which also has direct access to the building. It’s a slightly longer path, but in their mind, it’s a lot safer.”

“Fuck,” Kyle growled.

“Don’t worry, Sir. It doesn’t change anything,” Jim assured him, then turned in his seat to look at a guy in the back. “You’re up. You know what to do.”

The guy grinned and nodded, then left the car and joined a group of pedestrians, blending in with a practiced ease. In his grey suit and a dark brown leather suitcase, he looked just like another businessman. Kyle’s eyes followed his progress until he turned the corner and disappeared from his view.

“He might not look like it, but he’s one of our most skilled operatives,” Jim told him, filling the silence. “His grandfather served your father, and then his father after him, and now the son serves you. They’re a military family with the sole purpose of getting the best training possible so after they’re done, they can serve their true masters to the best of their ability.”

“That’s impressive,” Kyle conceded, then waved his hand, dismissing the topic. “I don’t really care about their upbringing as long as their loyalty is true.”

Jim’s right eye twitched, but he refrained himself from commenting and instead bowed his head just enough to break their eye contact. Kyle took it as a show of respect.

“Here he comes,” Jim said, his voice full of excitement.

Kyle’s eyes darted around and only when he found who he was looking for, he let his shoulders relax. He shifted in the seat, making himself more comfortable.

“What’s the status?” Jim asked the moment their young bomber joined us.

“Locked and loaded, Sir,” he replied, but Kyle wasn’t satisfied with his report.

“Explain,” Kyle barked, refusing to deal with another failed attempt.

At Kyle’s foul tone, the guy’s face turned somber, and he held himself higher. It was the first hint of his military training, the second was the way he relayed facts of his task.
