Sienna chuckled, grateful for her friend’s quick and soothing words. She laid down on her back, resting her head on Adrianna’s lap. She didn’t want to see the look in her brown eyes when she voiced what she feared.

“What if I’m falling in love with him?”

Adrianna took a sharp breath, then held it for a moment before exhaling. Sienna quietly counted the seconds before her friend spoke up.

“So what if you are? Aiden is a good guy and he’d be lucky to have a girl like you by his side. There’s nothing wrong with developing feelings,” Adrianna told her with the softest of tones.

Encouraged by her words, Sienna looked up at her. “But what if I love all of them? Is it possible to love more than one person at the same time?”

Adrianna shrugged. “I don’t see why not. Every one of them gives you something different, fulfills a different part of what you need. Together, they make you complete. Imagine that your heart is a puzzle that’s made from four pieces and each one of them is one piece. If you’re missing a piece, your heart is not complete.”

“I never thought of it that way,” Sienna admitted.

“No one does. The trick is to find that one person that fills up the whole picture. Only then, you should settle because in that case it won’t feel like settling. At least that’s what the Carrington code believes, which is also why it’s one of the biggest crimes to cheat on your significant other. We take wedding vows and exclusive relationship very seriously,” Adrianna told her with a tone that carried elements of warning that Sienna couldn’t quite decipher yet.

“I suppose it’s a good thing that I’ll spend the next few days with Jaxon,” Sienna joked.

“He’ll definitely give you more things to think about, but your time with him will also help you get a clearer perspective,” Adrianna agreed, and Sienna nodded, sitting straighter.

“What happened here while I was gone?” she asked, eager for a change of topic.

“Jaxon was running around the city, trying to talk to the families, Xavier was glued to his computer screen day and night, desperate to discover something new about the Remingtons, and Jensen spent endless hours in the war room with Mr. Carrington, figuring out the various strategies to bring down our enemies without suffering too many losses.”

Sienna tilted her head and scratched her chin. “This war will make us grow old before our time.”

Adrianna chuckled. “We should definitely stop talking about it then. Take a shower and get some sleep. I’ll bring you your breakfast in the morning before you go.”

“Thanks,” Sienna said and gave her friend a hug before she jumped off the bed.

“By the way,” Adrianna said, turning back to Sienna before opening the door. “Xavier and I were talking the other day about the good time we all had together. Maybe when things settle down, we can have a drink and relax.”

Sienna gave her a knowing smile and nodded. “I’d like that.”

Adrianna left the room, taking with her any excuse Sienna had for staying in bed. She had no choice but to shower, and even though cleaning up would make her feel better, she didn’t have the energy. With so many things on her mind, she hadn’t slept well, and it didn’t help that she wasn’t in her own bed.

After taking the world’s fastest shower, she collapsed into bed and fell asleep with only a small towel to cover her naked body. Somewhere in the night, even that slid off, which was how she ended up completely exposed when Adrianna came to wake her up in the morning.

“Go away!” Adrianna shrieked, the sudden noise waking Sienna up.

She stirred, then moved around so she was laying on her back to better see the commotion through her half-closed eyelids.

“What’s going on?” Sienna asked.

“Get out,” Adrianna hissed again, and only then Sienna noticed that her friend wasn’t alone.

A moment too late, she realized that she’d been lying on the bed fully exposed for everyone to see. Scrambling to grab the blanket, Sienna managed to cover herself with Adrianna’s help. With as much dignity as possible, she sat up and looked at the other person in the room.

“What are you doing here so early?”

“I just came to get your bags. I’m so sorry. I promise I wasn’t looking… much,” Brian said, looking as uncomfortable as Sienna felt. If it hadn’t been too early, she’d consider his awkwardness endearing, especially for a man of his age and stature.

“Grab them and get out,” Adrianna hissed at him once again, then cursed under her breath, something about being followed around without her consent.

Sienna didn’t pay much attention to her friend’s anger and waited patiently for Brian to move all her baggage outside the door. Only then did she get up and accept Adrianna’s help to get dressed.

“I’m sorry for that mess,” Adrianna apologized while brushing Sienna’s hair. “I told him to wait outside until I made sure you were decent, but he wouldn’t have it. I hate his guts. He never listens to anyone else except the heirs, and even then he questions them quite often.”

“And they allow him to do it?”
