“Lyle’s also dead,” Jensen told her. “And so is Brian.”

“That fucking piece of shit,” Aiden exploded, his face darkening with anger. “We should’ve known he was a traitorous bitch. I wish I could’ve murdered him with my bare hands. He’s the reason they got you in the first place. It’s his fault we almost lost you not once, but twice.”

“It’s done now,” Xavier said. His firm and emotionless voice was a stark contrast to his eyes that shone with sadness and regret.

“I know, I know. It’s just that I don’t understand. How did we miss it? He was a part of the family, and he betrayed us in the worst possible way,” Aiden insisted.

“He was jealous and miserable,” Sienna spoke up, remembering what he told her. “No matter how close you were or how much you’ve given him, he was always conscious of not being a Carrington. He was obsessed with it and then just snapped.”

“Son of a bitch,” Aiden cursed.

“What about Kyle?” Sienna asked, ignoring Aiden’s outburst.

Jensen’s eyes turned downward, and he sighed in a way that told her this was the bad news they were saving for the end. She braced herself for the worst, but even in her wildest imagination, she couldn’t prepare herself for what she was about to hear next.

“We couldn’t find any trace of him. We think he escaped,” Jensen told her, then looked her in the eyes, which only filled her with dread. There was more and it was bad enough that even he hesitated before continuing. “Before he slipped away, he took the papers.”

“What papers?” Sienna asked even though she knew.

“Your wedding certificate,” Jensen clarified.

Sienna shook her head, her eyes filling with tears once again. “What does that mean for me?”

Jensen sighed and ran a hand through his hair, messing it up in a way that reflected how he felt. The other heirs avoided meeting her eye.

“What does it mean?” Sienna repeated her question, her voice louder.

“It means that he’s your lawful husband. It means that on top of being the Remington heir, through you, he’s also the heir to the Ryder, Lockwood, and Aghayan fortune. He’s powerful and holding all the cards now. The law is on his side,” Jensen said through gritted teeth. “There’s nothing we can do, except wait for his next step.”

“No,” Sienna said and covered her mouth with her hands to prevent the sob from escaping. “That can’t be. That can’t be how it ends. Please tell me that’s not true.”

“We’re looking into annulment,” Xavier said quickly.

“Will it work?” Sienna asked, looking at him with hope in her eyes.

“Unlikely,” Jensen told her with a stony voice. “He has all the papers, and we don’t have the evidence that you were forced into the marriage. If we try to annul it, he can argue that we’re the one forcing you into doing it. It’s a very slippery slope, one that we’re not equipped to walk.”

“Kyle has his own allies and is dangerous in his own right,” Aiden told her, then added with a softer voice, “We’ll be with you through it all. You’re not alone. Never again.”

Sienna nodded, tears running freely down her cheeks, but at least she had them. She tried to remind herself that as bad as things seemed right now, it could always be worse, especially if you had to deal with them alone. With her Carrington heirs, she was far from that.

“You have to understand that by law, you belong to him now. Everything you have is his. You are his,” Jensen said, clenching his fist so hard that his knuckles turned white. “He has nothing left, except the need for revenge. We should expect the worst from him. He’ll be unpredictable and dangerous. He’ll be fueled by hate and everything he’ll do will be done to hurt you. He has nothing left to lose, while we have so much that he could take away.”

“We should be careful and set up extra guards. We should call in some favors and try to start looking for him on the worldwide level. We need to find him before he can strike and prevent him from doing any lasting damage,” Aiden said, scratching his chin in thought.

“You should rest now, but tomorrow, if you’re strong enough, you should join us for a meeting in the war room,” Jensen told her.

Sienna nodded even though she wasn’t sure she could sleep with all that information running through her head. Marrying Kyle was a mistake, one she would pay dearly for, but it was also the only way to save her, Elisabet’s, and Arlene’s life.

“I’ll get Adrianna to bring you something to help you sleep,” Jaxon told her, and Sienna gave him a grateful smile. They were so attentive and caring with her.

“Do you want one of us to stay with you while you sleep?” Aiden asked.

Sienna shook her head. “No offense, but you all look like crap. You should also get some sleep. I’m sure Ade can stay with me for a few hours.”

“She’s right,” Jensen agreed, then glanced at the door when Adrianna entered. “You’re in good hands now. Let’s go.”

One by one, the Carrington heirs dropped kisses on her forehead or cheek, before shuffling out of the room. Adrianna waited patiently at the door with a tray in her hands, bringing Sienna some food so she wouldn’t take a pill on an empty stomach.
