“Yeah, it is. I’m sure it needs a lot of work.”

“Well, I just bought the house, and I wanted to see how you felt about her because I’ve been thinking of asking her to move in with me.”

Melinda paused, her fork halfway up to her mouth. “Whoa, Dad, that’s…that’s awesome.” Melinda shoved two fries into her mouth. “Have you mentioned it to her yet?”

I shook my head. “No. I was planning to talk to her this weekend about it but wanted to see what you thought of the idea first. If you thought it was stupid, well, then I’d just pass on it.”

“Why would I think it was stupid?”

I said nothing. I just looked at my daughter. She was right. Why was it stupid?

“Dad, if you really like Peggy and are serious about being with her, then I think you should go for it. A wise man once told me to swing for the fences in everything I do. I have made some of my best decisions based on that advice.”

I smiled. I remembered telling her that. “Way to use my own words against me there, kid.”

Melinda laughed. “I say go for it.”

We took our time eating lunch and when we were finished, we headed back into Willow Valley. I pulled the truck up out front of Peggy’s Petals and hoped out, Melinda joining me. “Where does Peggy want all this stuff?” she questioned.

“I’m not sure. I’ll go inside and see.”

I had almost made it to the door when Peggy stepped outside, smiling. “Hey, Melinda. Ethan. How did it go?” she asked, placing a kiss on my cheek.

I wrapped my arm around her, and together we walked over to the back of my truck. “Well, they gave me everything that came in. It looked like it was everything on the list,” I said, opening the tailgate to show her all the boxes.

“Oh, amazing.”

“What all did you order, Peggy?” Melinda asked, coming over beside us.

“Oh, some different vases, mug vases, and a bunch of others. Probably too many options, to be honest. I also ordered a few spa type items for birthdays and anniversaries to add to my inventory. I’ve had an increase in requests for those things.”

“Ohhh, really. Fantastic. I will have to tell Tristan. I know he was asking me the other day some ideas on what to get for Brooke for their upcoming year anniversary.”

“Isn’t it a little early?”

“Yes.” Melinda laughed. “He told me he likes to be well-prepared.” The three of us laughed. “I’d love to see the spa type items myself.”

“Sure thing,” Peggy said, grabbing one box.

“All right, so where do you want this stuff?” I questioned, watching her walk away from me.

“Um, just bring it inside and stack it in the corner. I’ll get it put away.”

“Okay. Melinda, grab a box or two.”

Together, we had the truck unloaded in ten minutes and the boxes stacked inside the small entryway of the store. I’d just returned from the bathroom and found Peggy showing Melinda one of the spa kits.

“I’m going to run Melinda home and I’ll be back to help you with all this stuff,” I said, leaning in and placing a kiss on her cheek, while she went back to working on an arrangement.

“Okay, oh, and I thought I’d have you over for dinner tomorrow. To celebrate the new home.” Peggy looked at me, smiling.

“I’d love that.”

PEGGY

I stirred the sugar into my coffee as I sat across from Trinity, listening to her complain about how much Thomas had been working over the past couple of months.

“I barely see him anymore, between the store and all the orders he’d been getting.”
