“What’s this?” I examined it.

“Give that to Knight.”

Instead of opening it, I narrowed my gaze at him. “What’s in here?”

“The only way to take the family down.” Throwing himself back in his seat, he tapped his fist on the chair arm. “My father will be very happy we ran into one another.” The corners of his lips twisted into a sinister smile. “And you’re carrying these days? You’re definitely further entangled in this life than you think you are.”

UNEXPECTED

AMBER

Reaching across the car, I tugged on Chance’s arm playfully. “Where are we going? Tell meee!”

“I told you,” he grinned, “it’s a surprise.”

Huffing, I withdrew my hand, folding my arms over my stomach. Peering out the window, I attempted to guess where we were heading. It was lunch-time, so I was hoping food was involved, at least. I saw his reflection in the glass as he glanced at me quickly, amused.

“Is someone mad at me?” Stretching his arm out, he placed his palm on my thigh. “I can make you forgive me really quick.”

“I’m not mad.” I smiled, resting my hand on top of his.

“Oh, just nosy.” Never taking his eyes off the road, he slipped his hand further up my leg.

I slid his hand back down to my mid-thigh. “If we’re about to get out of the car, don’t start that now.”

“You’re in luck because we’re here.”

He pulled into a parking space in front of an adorable Mediterranean café in Beverly Hills. The building featured ample windows with a yellow and white awning overhanging the entrance. A quaint outdoor seating area lined the sidewalk, perfect for those who liked to watch the world pass by.

Our fingers laced together, he led me over to one of the outdoor tables for four, though only a guy sat looking over a menu. The moment he lowered it, I recognized him. It took everything in me not to gasp.Ashton Jackson!

He was even more beautiful in person than on screen. He’d grown a sprinkle of dark facial hair, aging his normally youthful appearance by several years. His greyish-brown almond-shaped eyes were entirely too rare to be real, but rumor had it they were his natural color. His walnut brown hair was classically tapered on the sides, fading into a thick and textured bronze on top.

“Hey, bro!” Chance threw his arms around his neck, patting his back. “It’s so fucking good to see you.”

I’d never seen Chance react to a male that way. It was evident in his hug he thought of him as a brother. Ashton smiled over his shoulder at me while I waited patiently to say hello.

“Good to see you, too.” Ashton grunted in his snug grip.

Chance took a step back, chuckling. “Sorry, it’s been forever.” Turning to me, he rested his hand on the small of my back. “This is my girlfriend.”

“Amber Wilson.” Ashton snickered, stretching his hand out to shake mine.

My hand met his, both happiness and confusion plain on my face.

“Okay,” Chance snorted, “Clearly no introduction is needed.”

“You’re famous, thanks to him.” He jerked his head toward Chance.

“How are we doing today?” A cheerful female voice interrupted us.

“Oh, sorry.” Chance ushered me over to the table, pulling my chair out before taking a seat next to me.

Remaining as professional as possible, she took our orders one by one, starting with mine. She was doing a great job hiding her excitement, but her eyes told another story. She hurried away with a skip in her step. Glancing into the restaurant window, I saw as she whispered furiously in the ear of a coworker before they peeked our way.

“So, Amber?”
