“If there’s more I should know, you will tell me. Am I clear?”

Bowing my head, I opened the door. “Yes.”

CHANCE

“Alright, before Alejandro gets here,” Ian strutted into his office mid-sentence with Jade trailing behind. “I want someone keeping a closer eye on Amber.” He tossed a stack of papers in the middle of his desk, turning back to face her. “No private dances for now, until I figure some things out.”

“Wait!” I interjected.

Ian and Luke turned to me.

“What’s the problem now, Safari Steve?” Ian asked.

Luke snorted, and Jade let out a loud laugh.

“Why no private dances with anyone at all?” I ignored his insult. “That’s where she makes most of her money.”

“Ask Luke.” He nestled his hands into his pockets.

Luke, enveloping his arms over his chest, cleared his throat. “For now, I just think it’s best if there's absolutely no one at all.”

Flickering my eyes to Ian, I nodded. I didn’t want her dancing for Alejandro but was confused why no others. “Okay, I respect the decision.”

“I appreciate that,” Ian said, “but you’re not the owner of the club, so your opinion doesn’t matter here.”

When Ian was in business mode or had something on his mind, he was short. A couple of years ago, I would have pushed his buttons, purposely trying to trigger him. However, things change. I had changed. So had he. Now wasn’t the time to upset him. Something unseen was bothering him.

Luke, sensing the atmosphere in the room thickening, perched on the arm of the sitting area sofa. “I want her to focus on other things right now. There’s this entire matter of the warehouse. We can’t have the information falling into the wrong hands.”

“When’s the fight, exactly?” I glanced at Ian, bringing my hand to my chin.

He sat in his chair. “Jade, give us some time.”

Nodding, she took a few steps back. “Oh, before I go, I need signatures on those by morning so I can send them off for you. Please?” She nodded toward the papers Ian had tossed on his desk.

Taking a pen out of a nearby drawer, he flipped through them, signing several of them then handed them back to her. As she exited, she and Luke exchanged flirty glances. I plopped down in a chair, crossing my ankle over my knee.

“We haven’t set a date for the fight yet,” Luke continued. “There’s still much to work out. Alejandro asked us to hold off a few months because he has some big players wanting to come in from New York, Spain, and Italy.” He rolled his eyes, quickly darting his gaze at Ian. “Ian wants to make sure he’s present because it’s more money for us.”

“Makes sense.” I chuckled. “Let’s hope that warehouse doesn’t blow up too.”

“When are you going back to California, Hollywood?”

“Done with the first project.” I shrugged. “We filmed the final scene on the first day, so I’m good there. Tobyn doesn’t need me again.”

“But the second project?” He arched his brow. “The one you’re directing?”

“I can delay it if need be. Why?”

“What do you mean?” Leaning back in his chair, he laced his fingers together behind his head.

“Well, I figure you must need me for something here since you’re asking.”

“I was actually going to ask you to be in charge of the gambling portion,” he rocked forward, propping his elbows on the desk, “but I wouldn’t want to ruin your pristine, angelic reputation.”

“I’ll do it since I can’t fight anymore.”
