“Yes ma’am. I’ll drive as fast as I can, but I’ll get us there in one piece.” The muscular brunette bodyguard kept his eyes on the road.
“Amber, please c..all…Ian and t-tell him we will…ugh…be there soon.”
Without hesitation, I dug my phone out of my pocket, calling Ian again. The club was a few blocks from the hospital.
Where are you?!Ian snapped immediately into the phone when he answered.
On the way, maybe four minutes now. We have Dylan.
Who’s driving you guys?
Cian.
Tell him to get my wife to me immediately. We’re standing in front of the hospital, waiting.
Okay, I’ll relay the message. We’ll be there soon.
He hung up before I could saygoodbye. Instead of relaying the message, I let Cian concentrate. He knew the urgency and I wasn’t going to make him angry.
“I was scheduled to be induced tomorrow!”
“Well, now you have a free schedule,” I half-joked.
“Amber, I want to laugh but my daughter is self-evicting herself from my vag right now.”
“Mrs. Knight, we’re almost there.” Within seconds, he came to a screeching halt in front of the hospital.
The back door opened, and Jade took Dylan from the car seat, self-appointing herself to care for him. As everyone hurried inside, Cian went to park the car. An employee was waiting as we entered, helping Jenna into a wheelchair, pushing her through a set of doors, into a private hallway. Once we were in the Labor and Delivery waiting area, she turned to us.
“Only the father is allowed beyond this point until we examine her.”
Ian turned to Dylan, leaning forward and kissing him on the cheek. “Stay and play, daddy will get you soon.”
“Come here.” Jenna waved. Jade bent down, holding Dylan up to her face. She leaned forward, kissing him on the other cheek, trying her best to not worry him. “Mommy loves you.”
As they hurried through the automatic doors, Dylan started waving bye and blowing kisses. My heart melted at the sight of their perfect family, and I sighed, frozen in place, wondering if I truly wanted that soon.
Suddenly, I felt Chance’s arm snake around my waist. “Are you about to cry?”
Shaking my head, I snickered. “No, they’re just such a beautiful family.”
At that moment, I think he read my mind, though he remained silent. Circling my hip with his thumb, he leaned his head on mine. After a few moments, he took my hand in his, guiding me to a blue leather sofa against the wall.
“Dylan didn’t get to eat.” I remembered suddenly, turning to Jade, who was sitting on the floor, playing with him. “There are a few snacks in his bag, but he’ll need real food soon.” I glanced around. “Where’d Luke go?”
“We’ll go get him some dinner in a second.” She sighed. “Luke went to call the sitter to ask if she could spend the night and stay through the morning in case we’re needed.”
“Dad duty,” Chance joked.
Jade shrugged, smiling. “He loves it.” Digging in Dylan’s diaper bag, she pulled out a container of cheese crackers and a juice box. “Plus, he’s really good at it.”
“Oh!” I slid my phone from my pocket. “I need to call Ty and Mila.”
“I’ll do it.” Chance stood. “I have to call Tyler, anyway.”
Nodding, I slid onto the floor with Jade and Dylan. “Okay.”
Instead of calling Tyler in the room, Chance excused himself, exiting entirely.
