“Not right now. Not here.”

“Are you okay?” She cupped my jaw, running her thumb in a circle, peering into my eyes. “Can I do anything?”

Shaking my head, I pulled her into my body, hugging her . “You’re here, you’re perfect. That’s all I need.”

Smiling, she stood on her toes, giving me a lingering peck on the corner of my mouth. “Okayyy, well I love you.”

“I love you.” Winking, I took her hand, going to Jenna’s room. Poking my head through the threshold, I knocked on the open door.

“Come in.” Ian announced, holding a green plastic cup by Jenna’s side.

“How are you feeling?” Amber sashayed to the edge of the bed, placing her hand on the railing.

I planted myself at the foot of the bed.

Jenna, slightly reclined, propped on several pillows, trying her best to be pleasant. “I’m excited, but really over this now.” She wiggled her foot under the blanket. “How are you?”

Lifting my gaze to hers, I forged a grin. “I’m great. I’m not pushing a baby out of me.”

Another contraction began, and she breathed in and out. Her smile diminished, her eyes narrowed on mine. “Why…are…you…not making…fun of me?”

Snorting, I shook my head. “You had enough of it last time. I thought I’d let you go through it in peace this time.”

She tried to muster a laugh, but let her head fall back and closed her eyes. “Should be soon, I guess. Or, I could be pregnant for the rest of my damn life.”

“If you guys keep it up,” I laughed, “you will be.”

I glanced at Ian, who was glaring in my direction. Gnawing at the inside of his cheek, he set the cup down on a tray before crossing his arms. I gulped, realizing he knew something wasoff. Inconspicuously, I shook my head, hoping he’d get the hint. He stepped to the side as the doctor and a nurse entered.

“Hello!” The nurse greeted the room before turning to Jenna. “How’s mom doing?”

Jenna groaned. “The contractions are getting closer.”

The doctor stepped over to the machine, looking at a long receipt-looking piece of paper. “I see that.” She turned to us. “Would you mind stepping out so I can check mom’s cervix?”

“Sure.” Amber squealed with glee.

“I’ll walk you to the door,” Ian stated for no reason. He pulled the privacy curtain just inside the door, then stalked us to the hallway. Grabbing my arm, he squeezed.

I stopped, turning to face him.

“What aren’t you telling me?” he growled next to my ear.

I shook my head, taking a step back.

“Tell me now.”

“Ian, I can’t.”

“Okay dad, you can come back in now!” the doctor called out from behind the curtain.

“Tell me!” He grabbed my arm, shaking it.

“Tyler is missing,” I muttered.

Amber gasped, covering her mouth.

“Luke went to take care of it. Dragon went to their house to watch Mila and the kids.”
