Oh shit. All the blood drained from my body, and I felt lightheaded. What happened?

They’ve got Tyler.

Jesus, no!

Amber jumped back, covering her mouth, tearing up. I leapt off the bed, tucking myself away, and buttoning my pants. I snatched my shirt, pulling it on.

I’m texting you where to meet me.

Fuck! Okay, I’ll leave immediately.

I have Nico on his way to get you. He told me to give you the address. Sent it now.

Glancing down at my phone, I gulped. Why am I going there, Luke?

When you and Nico get here, it’ll make sense.

Ending the call, I stared straight ahead. The phone tumbled to the floor, bouncing several times on the tweed rug. My vision tunneled. Amber sprung off the bed.

“What happened to Tyler?!”

Blinking rapidly, I stood. “Amber, I need you to stay with Jade over at Ian and Jenna’s house.” Reaching into the nightstand, I pulled out my pistol, securing it in my back waistband.

WHO I AM

The cemetery was closed. However, one of Ian’s men worked nighttime security and let us in through a side gate just off the main road. I hadn’t been here since thedoublePrescott funeral. I stared up at the black wrought-iron sign, stretched in an arch over the wide path.

“Come on,” Nico slapped my shoulder blade.

Shaking off the memory of the memorial service, we hurried through dark, eerie grounds with only our phone flashlights.Shit. We were heading in the same direction as…oh no. I froze, seeing Luke and several others surrounding Mr. and Mrs. Prescott’s burial site. They looked absolutely terrifying as small lights flashed across their faces.

A sense of dread rose in the pit of my stomach. It was a sizable area, marked by a large, stone Catholic cross, the name Prescott etched across the middle. There were two headstones underneath, one for both parents, but two empty plots remained; one for Jenna, one for Tyler. They’d been bought years ago.

Suddenly, I spotted a blood-soaked cloth on the ground just behind Luke. Shoving him to the side, I leapt forward, clasping a hand over my mouth.

“Ty, oh, G—”

“He’s not here,” Luke murmured.

Pinning the fabric to the ground was a bloody knife with a note. I squatted down, reading:

“I’m going to be sick.” I stood, burying my face in my palm. “They killed Tyler!” Throwing my hands in the air, I snapped. “We have to go after that asshole. Now! Jenna’s lost the only blood she’s got left.”

“I don’t think they would’ve killed him just yet,” Nico said, sliding a dark leather glove on his right hand. He pulled the knife out of the ground, detached the note, then dropped the weapon into a clear bag, sealing it, and tucked it into his pocket. “Leverage.”

Luke nodded. “The target was never Amber.”

“The distraction was Amber,” Nico agreed. “Thefinaleis Ian.”

“What do you mean?” I shook my head, confused. “How do you know?”

“Three down indicates the parents and Tyler. One to go is Jenna.” He sighed. “The finale still remains. Ian is the finale.”

“Someone has to go find Tyler and we have to get back to the hospital!” I barked orders as if I were in charge.
