“I thought he’d know. Jeanie and Donna are looking for dresses online as we speak.”

There was a long pause and then a sigh from Luca.

“Is there something else?”

“There have been sightings of Gustav close to our border with your territory. People have gone missing.”

My hackles rose. “How many are we talking about?”

“Over ten, all within the last few weeks.”

“Fuck.” I ran a hand through my hair. “He’ll know we’re mated now. I guess he’s getting ready to make his move.” A shudder ran through me.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m cool. Just talking with Luca. Enjoy your dress search.”

“Antoine?”

“Sorry, Luca. Donna picked up on my change of mood.”

“No problem. At least you being with your fated mate before us, you can give us some pointers when the time comes.”

I picked up on the sadness in his voice. Hopefully, they’d find their mate sooner rather than later.

“So, do you think they may try and ambush us on the way to the ball? It would be the kind of dick move he’d make.”

“We think so. The demons know all about the celebrations we have when a pair bonds.”

I scratched my chin in thought. “And knowing Clement, your parents, and the rest of the Hybrid council, they won’t postpone the ball.”

“Nope, ‘fraid not. Mum and Dad did speak with him, but there’s no way.”

“Hmm, maybe Clement knows something we don’t. He can be a secretive ass when he wants to. So, what happens now? The four of us were going to travel by car.”

“You can still do that. Karl’s an awesome fighter. He’ll drive you. There will be other unmated Hybrids along the route, to ensure extra safety.”

“Thanks, that’ll be good. I’d better go and tell Donna and the others about this.”

“Good idea. Have you done any training with her yet?”

My mind went back to the training and all the fun we’d had earlier that day.

“We’ve done some and she’s a fast learner. She’ll soon be kicking the demons’ asses with the rest of us.”

“She did pretty well up at the viewing point. I don’t think I’d argue with her. Anyway, I’ll leave you to tell them the news and be in touch closer to the date with times, etc.”

“Sure. Thanks, Luca.”

I headed out to the garage, a string of swear words slipping from my lips.

“Hey, language,” Mac chastised.

“Sorry. Luca’s informed me that we may have a little demon problem when we travel to and from the ball.”

“Jesus. And now we need to tell the ladies.”

I nodded.
