I sent a smile of thanks Mac’s way.

“So, does this mean that I need to up my training?”

Was it wrong that I thought it was hot how she wanted to be battle ready?

“Not at all. I feel the same when I see you all growly and angry.”

“I don’t know about the rest of you, but I want a nightcap before I go to bed.”

Mac headed over to his drinks cabinet and pulled out his favourite single malt whiskey.

“Could I have a brandy please, love?”

“Of course. I know Antoine will have the same as me. Donna?”

“A small brandy please.”

As we sipped our drinks, we made small talk. Jeanie still seemed a little rattled and we were trying our best to keep the situation calm.

“Maybe it’ll be better if they don’t go.”

“No, Donna. They’ll be offended if we do that.”

“Is she always worried when there’s a demon problem?”

“It’s because after helping Luca and Sal one time, I was still a little bloody when I got home. It scared the life out of her.”

“I can understand that. Well, nothing’s going to happen on my watch.”

She was full of confidence. I only hoped that this trip went smoothly. Because she’d never been up against a full-strength demon. This would be a shock to her when she saw how powerful he was.

ChapterNineteen

Antoine

When we reached our living room, an idea came to me about help with honing her skills as a Hybrid.

“How would you like it if I asked a couple of Hybrid friends over to help with your training?”

“That would be a great idea. You and that hot physique of yours…” She let her eyes slip slowly up and down my body. “…are way too tempting.”

“That’s what I thought about your body too. Seriously, though. You need to be prepared for a dirty, ugly fight. We’ll have to face Gustav at some point, and he’ll be hard to kill.”

Her face went a little pale. “I know you’re right.” She sighed. “To be honest, that fight at the cliffs the other day was scary enough. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t terrified.”

Cupping her face between my hands, I captured her eyes with mine. “If you weren’t afraid, I’d be concerned. The one thing you cannot afford to be is complacent.”

“So,” she said, dragging me over to the comfy chairs on my balcony. “Who are you going to get to spar with me?”

“A couple of unmated Hybrids. Karl and Lilah.” I let loose a sad sigh.

She reached over to squeeze my arm. “Why the sad face?”

“The twins, Lilah, Karl, and another Hybrid, Sacha, were all given territories at the same time as me. Out of all of them, I’m the only one to find my mate so far.”

“Oh, that’s so sad. But there’s still time for them, right?”

“Yeah. But you never know when their time is going to be up. Or their mate dies, caught by demons.”
