I grinned. “You can thank Jeanie for that.”

“I certainly will. Tell me.” His eyes had gone a deep smoky colour. “Are you wearing underwear?”

I blushed. God knows why. I’d shared my body with this man many times.

“Just a little lacy black thong.”

He ran a hand through his hair and growled. “Now I wish I hadn’t asked.”

I went to him and put my arms around his waist. My lips found his and we kissed long and deep, giving me time to let my hands wander to his ass. After kneading and teasing him, I moved away, giggling.

“What?” he asked, his eyes wild.

“You’ve gone commando.” I headed for the door.

He stalked after me, catching me by the shoulders, his eyes roving over my face. “Hmm, so that’s why you were copping a feel of my ass, huh?”

“Might’ve been.”

Antoine turned serious, one hand going to his inside jacket pocket. He pulled out a small black satin box.

“Before you have a major freak out, I’m not proposing. That doesn’t mean I won’t,” he added quickly.

I loved this shy side of him. His eyes were a little wild, and he chewed on his lower lip.

“Shall I open it?” I whispered.

He nodded, eyes on me while I took the box from him. Nestled inside on a white satin cushion was the most beautiful ring I’d ever seen. It was a platinum band decorated with emeralds and deep-blue sapphires.

“It’s an eternity ring. The stones are meant to represent the colour of our eyes.” He coughed before continuing. “I chose an eternity ring because we’ll be together forever, and eyes are the windows to our souls. It kinda sounded romantic when I thought about it.”

“Put it on and look at me while you do it.” My voice was shaking with emotion.

While he slid the ring on my finger, eyes fastened to mine, I said in a low voice, “This is perfect, Antoine. I love your words and the sentiment behind them. I love you so much. You’ve brought me back from the brink and saved me. I’ll never take this off again.”

I crushed him to me and let my mouth do the talking. A soft knock at the door brought us apart.

“We’ll be there in two minutes,” he said, his eyes never leaving mine. “Donna, I’ve waited more centuries than I care to think about. I was so lonely, waiting for my mate to arrive. Then you came, just as I was on the verge of giving up. I love you too.”

We shared another kiss, and with our hands locked, headed out to get our lift to the ball.

Antoine

I felt as though I was turning into an emotional wreck around Donna. My whole world revolved around her now. Always. When she first saw the ring, I worried that she’d say no. When she asked me to put it on, it felt like all the pieces of my shattered soul merged together. And as for how she looked… She was always beautiful in my eyes, but damn, if she didn’t look just like a goddess at that moment.

Karl had picked us up. I elected to sit in the front with him so I could keep an eye open for any demonic activity. These balls were held in different locations each time, and the demons knew better than to strike a location filled with so many Hybrids, vampires, and angels. But you had to be ready for them to strike along the way. Knowing Gustav, he’d be too sensible to attack now. That ass would find another opportunity. I couldn’t wait until we consigned him to death.

“We’ll do it together when the time comes.”Donna’s reassuring caress in my mind soothed my soul.

I chuckled when I looked in the rear-view mirror. Jeanie and Donna sat together and were talking non-stop. They got a little emotional when Donna showed her the ring, but at that moment they were discussing plans for the gardens Donna wanted to create. Jeanie was well onboard with her ideas. Poor Mac sat in silence He looked at me through the rear-view mirror, rolling his eyes. But he did smile.

“Looks like we’ll be doing all the heavy lifting and digging,” he said.

I laughed. “I guess so. Anything to keep the women happy.”

Donna stuck her tongue out at me but carried on her discussion with Jeanie.
