“I have some better ideas on how you can use that tongue of yours.”

“And I have a few fun scenarios of my own,”she teased back.

Karl sat silently in the driver’s seat, but I could see the tic in his jaw and the sadness in his eyes.

“You okay, bro?”

He nodded. Karl was the strong, silent type. His lack of words said it all. There was a kind of loss in his expression. It made me sad and guilty. Sad because I knew he wanted to find his mate, and guilty because I’d found mine. We just had to hope that he found her soon.

“We’re here,” Karl announced as we came upon two large, wrought iron gates leading down a long drive to an impressive mansion in the distance.

Everyone got out, apart from Donna.

“Hey.” I peered inside, holding my hand out to her. “It’s showtime.”

“Can’t I just stay in here? Clement can come out and have a chat, then we can go home.”

“Sorry, babe.” I tugged at her hand. “But there’s a room full of people waiting to say hi.”

She grumbled and I was certain that she was saying some colourful swear words under her breath.

Donna

After the relaxing car ride and chat with Jeanie, my nerves were hanging by a thread. This was my worst nightmare come true. Having to be the centre of attention at some formal do.

“Swallow me up now, ground, please.”

“No chance. I want to show off my beautiful mate to everyone.”

I took Antoine’s arm and headed up the steps to the huge building in front of me. The first people I saw were Isabella and Lorenzo. Faces I knew. People who had seen me at my worst. Isabella came to me and held me in a warm embrace.

“Welcome to our world, Donna. You look beautiful.”

My cheeks heated under her words. “Thank you. It’s good to see you again too.”

I got caught up in another embrace, by Lorenzo this time. “It’s wonderful to see you again. We’re so happy that Antoine has finally found his mate.”

I was about to respond when I felt another set of eyes on me. Turning around, I was faced with a man who I could tell was not human. There was a glow around him. His hair was golden, and his eyes were as blue as glaciers. He was stunningly handsome, although not as much as Antoine.

He raised his brows in question. Had he heard me? My face burned.

“Yes, I can. Thank you for the compliment.”

My eyes widened.“How can you hear me?”

A smile lifted the corner of his lips.“I hear everything, Donna.”

I felt Antoine’s comforting arm around my shoulder as Clement headed our way.

“Clement, I’d like to formally introduce you to my mate, Donna.” Antoine said the words with pride.

“Congratulations to you both.”

He lifted my hand and kissed the back of it. Antoine tried to hold back a possessive growl, but it slipped out. Clement just shrugged.

“I’d like to borrow your mate for a couple of minutes, if I may.”
