Suddenly, I remembered Gustav had Jeanie.

“Where’s Jeanie? Gustav had her.”

Everyone looked around. There was no sign of her.

“Antoine, we can’t let him have her. He said he was going to make her his pet and send her soul to hell!” I was crying now and I didn’t care who saw.

Antoine swore loudly.

“Hey, this isn’t going to help. He’ll take her somewhere he knows you’ll follow. Think, Donna,” Lilah said.

I knew exactly where that would be. “He’s taken her to the cliffs, Antoine. The ones where he tried to make me kill myself. It’s the only place I can think of.”

“Okay, let’s go. Guys, follow, but don’t get close enough that he knows you’re there,” he said to the others.

“No problem. If any of his lesser demons or familiars try to get close, they’ll be fucking toast,” Karl assured us.

Antoine

Gustav was going to die today. He’d messed with my mate’s life and mind, and now he had the closest thing to a mother I’d ever known. He wasn’t going to take her from us or Mac. Donna’s mind was open to me. The anger, anguish, pain, and rage she experienced hurt me too.

“Remember we need to remain calm whatever we hear or see, Donna.”

“I know.” Her expression was grim. “Don’t you worry. I’m ready. He’s not having Jeanie and he dies today.”

I couldn’t have agreed more.

Donna had been right about the cliffs. Gustav stood, in demon form, with Jeanie dangling from his claws over the cliffs. That bastard was really going to suffer when we got him.

“He won’t drop her. He wants her as his familiar,” Donna said by my side.

“I know.”

We landed a few feet away from him.

“Don’t come any closer or she’ll die.”

Jeanie’s body hung lifeless in his claws, dangling precariously over the cliff. She was still unconscious.

“He’s put her in a trance,”I said to Donna.

“That’s a blessing in disguise.”

“So, come for revenge, my sweet?” Gustav’s words were directed at Donna.

“Revenge? Nah, that never did anyone any good. I’ve come to kill you, so our territory is safe.”

“Give it up, asshole. Your number’s almost up,” I warned him.

“You think? I’m having too much fun. Look at this pathetic almost-human. Even with long life she’s still vulnerable. What use is she to anyone? All she has is immortality, none of your powers.”

At that point, he dropped her over the edge. Donna screamed, her wings outstretched as she headed over the edge. Gustav turned his focus on me. For someone who was about to die, he seemed cocky.

“Come and get me, then,” he jeered.

And I did. We came together in a clash of fangs and claws, ripping and tearing at each other’s flesh. We rolled around on the ground. I heard Donna shout a warning. Too late, I saw several other lesser demons almost upon me.
