“Thank you for saving her.”
I smiled. “It was a pleasure, and I’d do it all over again if I had to. You get some rest. I’ll fix us all something to eat later.”
“But that’s my job,” Jeanie protested.
“We’re all family, Jeanie. Which means we pitch in together.”
I headed up to our bedroom in time to hear the water turn off.
Antoine appeared from the bathroom, butt naked. “I’ve run us a bath.”
“Oh,” I moaned. “That sounds great.”
I stripped off and we went back into the bathroom. Fortunately, it was a large bath. We both sighed our appreciation as we sank into the bubbles. We lay like that for a long time.
“So,” I said after a while. “What now?”
He ran a finger down one of my arms. “We keep watch over our territory and be ready to assist other Hybrids if they need our help.”
“Sounds good.”
When we got out of the bath, we eyed each other in speculation. I knew what we both needed.
“I promised to cook a bit later for the four of us, but that leaves us some time for…”
I squealed as he picked me up and placed me on the bed.
“I like your thinking,” he murmured, already waiting to enter me. “Just promise me one thing.”
“Anything.”
“Next time you go to the garden centre, take reinforcements with you.”
I was about to respond when he thrust inside me, all my sassy comments gone from my head. I may have lost one life, but it seemed my new life and family were going to be just as loving.
