“What’s wrong, love?”

“Nothing.” I pull myself up, leaning against the wall. “I’m just letting it sink in that I did it, Eli. I got rid of Garrett. For almost half my life, he’s been a constant source of nightmares, and now it’s over. Not just for me. For so many people whose lives he affected in a bad way. I did it. I won.”

Eli smiles warmly, cupping my face. “You did it. Neubrook is a better place.”

I step into his arms, leaning into him. “Can you take me to bed and fuck me until morning?”

Eli chuckles, nipping at my jaw. “Absolutely.”

As we peel out of our clothes for the second time tonight, falling onto the couch, kissing hungrily, my body is overcome by a new type of lust. The need for blood and revenge that has fueled my life for years has been replaced by nothing but love and peace.

Eli enters me expertly, clinging to my body as he moves deep within me. His moans are music to me, his heart beating in time with mine, and in this moment, I have everything I’ve ever wanted. I took a major chance, and it paid off. For once in my life, I came out on top and created a life I can be proud of.

And it’s fucking paradise.

Epilogue

Two Years Later

Eli

I can’t believe it’s been two years since I returned to Neubrook and found Michel again. To say my life has taken on aspects I couldn’t have imagined is an understatement, but I wouldn’t trade a single second of it.

Now, we’re just minutes away from celebrating the opening of Oscala Lofts and the opening of the new city center we’ve all worked so hard on.

Neubrook is everything Michel hoped it would be when he embarked on his risky plan to rid the city of all the bad things that held it back. As he stands with Mayor George talking to the media, my heart swells with love and pride. That’s my man.

Tonight will be the last big event he hosts before handing the reins over to other citizens who wish to entertain on grand scales. We’ve discussed it, and he’s ready for a lower profile life. He met his goals. He has key people in place to run things in his absence, and now we can spend time enjoying each other and the world around us.

He turns to me and winks, looking handsome in casual clothes, a change he welcomed once he got rid of Garrett and his gang. The man looks incredible in a suit, but in well-fitting jeans and a high-quality t-shirt, he’s delicious. And all mine.

Sometimes I wonder if we can really be happy without having an outlet for the inherent violence that comes along with being a vampire, but Michel assures me he has a plan for that, and I trust him. He always takes care of me.

Finally, the press disperse, leaving Michel to walk over and wrap his arms around me, kissing my neck. Another positive since he’s helped reshape the city? It’s now one of the friendliest cities in America for LBGTQ+ folks. Turns out the majority of people here couldn’t care less about who loves who. As a result, not only have we seen an influx of young professionals from the big city, we’ve welcomed lots of queer people. I love it.

“Hello, handsome,” Michel says, dragging his nose along the column of my neck. “You smell divine.”

“You always say that.”

“Because it’s always true.”

Chuckling, I slide my hands down his chest. “You look good enough to eat.”

With a lifted eyebrow, he offers a sexy smirk. “That can be arranged.”

“Oh, plan on it tonight.”

He takes my hand and we walk down the street, stealing love-soaked glances at each other.

“Do you miss the extravagance of the masquerades?” I ask.

“A little. It was fun playing dress up, but I’m happier to show my true self now. Mostly.”

I chuckle at that. “Mostly. Can you believe everything you’ve accomplished since you came back?”

He nods. “Yes. I firmly believed I could do this. Now we’re a model of city planning. We no longer have people on the streets without food or shelter, and our job training program is working out well.”

I squeeze his hand, smiling. “It’s amazing. I love it here, but I can’t lie and say I’m not looking forward to traveling with you.”
