“I ain’t doing shit. This is ayouproblem and you’re going to deal with it. First, you’re going to leave Lexi be, and second, you’re going to do what you have to in order to keep that bitch’s mouth firmly shut. Playhouse with her till we can get everyone together and figure out the next move.”

I didn’t like playing house when I was with her, having to do it now has me clenching my hands into fists.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Tough shit. The only thing standing between you and a life behind bars is your ex. I’m sure you can think of some way to keep her quiet.”

This isn’t what I wanted to hear and their smugness bites at me. Pushing away from the bar, I head outside and smash my fist into the wall. Shay fucking knows how we work, and she knows she has me cornered. My boots are heavy as I head upstairs, and it takes everything just to open my door and step inside.

If my only plan as of now is to play house, then that’s what I’ll have to do but it won’t be the house she’s used to.

Psycho walks in, nods curtly at everyone, and ignores me. Shit. This isn’t going to end well for me. He’s the last person I want to piss off. Inhaling deeply, I cross the bar and intend to make this quick.

“Psy, can I have a word?”

He lazily rolls his eyes at me and jerks his chin.

“Nothing that’s happened today was planned and I’m fucking pissed Lex is thinking all sorts when it’s really not what’s going on. But I’m going to make it right with her.”

He gives me his full attention and the weight of his glare presses against my soul.

“Stay the fuck away from her. She doesn’t need your bullshit in her life. To say I got my eye on you real fuckin’ close is an understatement.”

Fucking great.

Said eyes swing from mine to over my shoulder.

Tipping his chin in the direction of the stairs, he coldly says, “Go keep your whore sweet.”

Shaya makes her way down the stairs, and I grit my teeth to hide my frustration. I quickly usher her back up to the room.

“I told you to stay put.”

“That was hours ago,” she snaps. “I’m hungry.”

Shoving her into the room, I kick the door shut behind me and lean in her face.

“I couldn’t give a shit what you want or need. Don’t fucking forget you’re only here 'cause you’re threatening to fucking snitch on me.”

She places her hands on my chest, I swat them away and take a step back.

“Baby, I’d never…”

“Shut your mouth and listen, this isn’t gonna be how you’re imagining. I promise you that.”

Her wicked smirk that first ever drew me in appears and she latches onto my kutte. I can’t watch her twenty-four-seven, not if I’m going to convince Lexi this isn’t what she’s thinking. Why didn’t I explain before she left? Shit, why did I let her leave at all? If Shaya believes we’re getting back together it gives me more freedom to figure out a plan. This is bullshit. I don’t have it in me to pretend anything with her. I dig deep and say, “If you stay, you do this my way.”

“Anything you say, babe.”

“No, I’m not your babe.” If she’s going to believe I’m back all in, I need to hold my tongue. “While we’re here, you need to keep your head down and your mouth shut. These guys aren’t like Dodge and Atley, they’ll kill you if they hear you threatening to snitch.”

She has the courtesy to at least act shaken. As she should. I wouldn’t say Dodge would let it slide either, but he’s getting lazy in his older age and Atley’s not much different. Between me and Birdie, we reckon it won’t be too long before he’s hanging his kutte up and handing down the gavel.

“I told you, I didn’t mean it, I wouldn’t say anything. I just want you.”

“Shay,” I sigh. Why does life always want to fuck me up? I can’t play pretend with her when I know how good it feels to play real with Lex but still, I carry on lying through my teeth. “Since you came all this way, prove to me how much you’ve missed me.”

She goes to lift her top and I shake my head. “Lie on the bed.”
