“What day?” Nico growls.

“I need to talk to you as a friend and not as my boss,” I turn my attention to him.

“Go on.” His eyes are narrowing in on me. I’m almost certain he is preparing to lunge out of his chair and attack me. Nico has zero patience these days.

“Very well,” I take a deep breath and take two steps back from him. I drop down to my knees. “Felicity will only come back under certain conditions.”

“Why the fuck are you on your knees?” Nico’s angry tone has changed to one of confusion. “Hurry up and spill it, Basque. What are her conditions?”

“She comes back to the compound but not under your roof. She wants to stay at Carmella’s Estate.” The empty in-law's house that’s on the property. “She wants to live there.”

It’s not what Felicity said. This is my idea. A way to get her back within his eyesight to give him peace but give her freedom at the same time.

“Carmella’s? She isn’t even married,” he mutters.

“Yet,” Mia giggles.

“I’ve been loyal throughout the years and never asked you for any favors. However, I ask for one now,” I say, looking up at him.

“Spill it, Basque, before I lose my shit.”

“My favor is that you allow me to marry Felicity.”

The entire room fills with gasps and side conversations. Mia is jumping up and down in her seat with joy. Nico is giving me the death glare.

“You want to marry my sister?” he growls.

“Yes,” I nod. “And, not just because of her running away. I had planned on asking your permission one day, she just sped up the process.”

“Why in the hell do you want to marry Felicity? She’s unruly, doesn’t listen to anyone, and is constantly in trouble. She’d be nothing but a headache for you. Absolutely not.”

Wait. Did he just object because he doesn’t think Felicity is good enough for me?

“Nico Santoro!” Mia shouts.

“What? It’s the truth. Felicity is too spoiled. Basque needs a woman who is down to earth and not going to give him gray hair as soon as they say, I do,” Nico explains to her with his eyes on me.

“I won’t marry anyone else but her,” I reply.

“Why the fuck would you want a headache every day?” He pinches the bridge of his nose. “And, when the hell did you two become a thing?”

I smirk in response and he rolls his eyes.

“I had a fucking feeling. All of the women who are always around and you want the brattiest of them all? Are you a glutton for punishment? Do I not give you enough work to do? Is this a way to pay me back for wronging you somehow?” Nico’s questions are fired at rapid speed so I dare not try to answer them. He’s only asking them to get them out of his head. Rhetorical in a sense.

Nico stands up slowly from his chair as does everyone but Mia and me. He takes off his jacket and hangs it over the back of his chair.

Finally,I think as I watch him roll up his sleeves.

“Nico Santoro, don’t you dare hit Basque!” Mia defends me. She stands up and rushes over to my side. “If you hit Basque so help me God!”

“Mia, this doesn’t concern you,” Nico warns.

“You are my husband and Felicity is my sister-in-law!” she screams. “This concerns me, whether you like it or not.”

“Mia, leave. Now.”

“Or what? Going to hit your pregnant wife?”
