“Hello to you too,” I manage to say.

“I think we are past hellos, Felicity,” he mutters.

“So, I’m just someone who takes your orders?”

He doesn’t reply right away. Silence fills the line.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” I whisper broken-heartedly.

“Look, I’m not trying to argue with you. Just make sure to get in the car. Gregg and the guys will escort you back here.”

“And, Basque? Where is he?”

“Just worry about getting in that car. Once you’re here, then you can worry about Basque. And, if you were that concerned about him then maybe you should have come back with him, Felicity.” He ends the call.

“Son of a bitch!” I scream, slamming the phone down on the receiver.

Within the hour, I shower, get ready, pack my suitcases, and clean up the room. I stand out front under the awning and wait for the car. The doorman stands guard over me. Something tells me he’s with the F.B.I.

“If you stand any closer to me, I’ll be able to hear your earpiece,” I smirk, looking back at him. He quickly steps away from me.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to stand so close, Miss,” he smiles.

“Guess you’re fresh out of the academy,” I grin. He opens his mouth but closes it just as fast. “I suggest you take more steps back once the car pulls up.”

“What?” he asks with an eyebrow raised.

Again, as though the universe was listening, a line of blacked-out SUVs pull up in front. Gregg and the guys hop out wearing their black suits and ties. No matter how many times I’ve seen it, it always looks like something out of the movies.

“Ciao ciao. My chariot awaits,” I wave playfully to thedoormanand head over to Gregg. The guys quickly rush over. Two of them take my bags from me.

“Signorina Santoro,” they all say in unison, bowing.

“Gentleman,” I smile.

“This way, Signorina Santoro,” Gregg says, gesturing at one of the SUVs.

“You’re the boss,” I smirk and head to the door. Gregg rushes ahead of me and opens the door. I slide in and put my seatbelt on. Gregg gets in the front passenger seat. He puts on his seatbelt. He looks around and once he’s satisfied, he gestures to our driver, who flashes his headlights at the car in front of us… we are on our way back to hell. It’s the last place I want to be, but if that’s what it takes to ensure Basque’s safety then I will.

My heels click across the marble floors as I make my way through the house to the dining room where Nico is waiting. The double doors are open for me, revealing Nico, who is sitting at the head of the table across the room. His eyes meet mine and my gut twists.

Mia and a few of the other guys are in the room. They all look at me. Mia jumps out of her chair and rushes over to me. She hugs me as though her life depends on it.

“You had me so worried,” she sobs. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”

“Hi, Mia,” I giggle. “I’m glad someone missed me.”

“You’re family. Of course, I’d miss you,” she smiles at me. She grabs my hand and leads me over to an empty seat near Nico, who is staring me down.

“Nico,” I acknowledge out of respect since others are watching.

“Felicity,” Nico mutters.

Mia gestures at the chair and I sit down. She smiles before heading around the table back to her seat. Once she’s seated, she looks across the table at me.

“I’m glad you’re visiting,” she smiles.
