I could tell that the thought of meeting my mom made her nervous. I wasn’t going to tell her that she had nothing to worry about. Maci would be the first girl I ever brought home to meet my family. There had been plenty of unfortunate run-ins my mom experienced with randoms, but as soon as I told her that Maci was mygirlfriendshe would probably offer to fly her out first class.
It was exactly why I hadn’t said anything to my family yet. I decided to wait until I was officially home for the summer to break the news.
Maci searched my face for any signs of hesitation. “This is a lot for a trial run.”
“I’m not gonna be able to go that long without seeing you,” I admitted. “Let me fly you out to me.”
She stretched up on her toes and pressed her lips to mine. I fisted my hand in the hair at the base of her neck and she smiled against our kiss. I pulled her to me again, and when she sucked softly on my bottom lip, I knew I had my answer.
I wasn’t sure how summer break would work between us. I still had two months left of school to see Maci as much as I wanted before I had to let her go for a little bit. I still had no desire to be temporary, and when I kissed her again, I knew that was no longer even an option.
Without warning, I fell for one of my best friends. I just hoped I could survive the trial period.
