The walk to Falcon’s Point wasn’t that bad. A few townies had their houses decorated and ready to go for Halloween tonight. A few homemade ghost decorations hung from a front porch, and various pumpkins lined the lawns and flowerbeds. It was nice outside for it being so early, and it made me think that I might be able to wear my firefighter costume without freezing my ass off. Last year for Halloween, it snowed, and it was miserable passing from bar to bar.

Once I crossed the main road, I scrolled through my phone and read a few unopened text messages. Two were from Bryson, who asked if I got the ass I was looking for. One was from Heather, who asked if I would swing by after the bars. One was from Addie, who asked the same thing as Heather, only I had no idea who the hell Addie was. The last text was from an unknown number.

I tucked my phone back into my pocket and felt the lack of sleep kicking in. Maci and I returned to her apartment around two in the morning and probably didn’t fall asleep until three. I couldn’t wait to get home and crash.

I walked into my apartment promptly at seven forty-eight. An empty bottle of Jack Daniel’s sat on the coffee table, and empty beer bottles were scattered around the kitchen counter. The guys must’ve left right after I did last night. No one had been here since.

I bypassed the mess and headed straight for my room. I unlocked the door and fell onto my bed. I didn’t set an alarm or plug my phone into charge, and I didn’t wake up until one forty-five that afternoon.

“J,do you have that charcoal stuff?” Bryson yelled from the kitchen.

I smeared another line of black powder under my eyes and rubbed it around. I stared at my bare chest under my bright yellow suspenders and put a few dots of makeup in random spots.

“Let me see how you’re doing it.” Bryson popped his head into my bathroom.

I handed him the charcoal powder. “Who’s all here?”

“I’ll give you three guesses.” He smirked and took a swig of his drink.

“Is Heather’s ass sitting in our living room?” I demanded. I laughed into my Jack and Coke when I saw Bryson’s expression.

“After I’m done doing all this shit”—he motioned to the makeup on his face—“and you get your dick sucked by the sexy kitten out there, we can head out.”

I took a long sip of my drink and placed my firefighter hat on my head. “Does she have the tail and everything?”

Bryson burst into hysterics and went across the hall to his bedroom.

I slipped on my Timberlands and took a final look in the mirror. I wore dark-wash jeans, a red firefighter hat, and yellow suspenders. Even though my face looked like I had just been on a lifesaving rescue mission, it was the easiest costume I’d ever put together.

“Hey, Jax?” A voice I knew all too well was at my bedroom door. I walked out of my bathroom and was greeted by Heather. She wore a tight black strapless dress, cat ears, and black heels. She sighed, taking in my costume. “Damn.”

“What do you want, Heather?” I demanded. I set my drink down on the dresser to spray a few pumps of cologne.

“I just thought I would check in,” she slurred, letting herself into the room. “I didn’t hear from you last night.”

“I was with someone else,” I said casually. I could tell her I got married last night, and she would still offer to get me off. I didn’t know what this girl's problem was.

“I missed you.” She pouted and took a seat on my bed.

I looked over at her and took another sip of my drink. Shedidlook hot in her costume. I had no idea that she was a fucking cat, but at this moment, I didn’t care. I was buzzed, horny, and ready to have a good time.

Every part of me wanted to reach out to Maci to see what bar she was headed to, but I needed to get my head straight after what happened last night. I was positive that if I ended up in her bed again, I wouldn’t be able to stop myself a second time. It was best I didn’t see her until tomorrow.

“How bad did you miss me?” I challenged and walked over to Heather.

She finished the rest of her beer and set the can on my end table. “Shut the door.”

I felt my phone vibrate in the back pocket of my jeans right before I slipped them off. I quickly locked my door and turned off the light.

“Did he say anything back yet?”Katie yelled over the music.
