Color rose to her cheeks as she scanned the dining room. “That guy over there. The one in the black hat.” She blushed when she nodded in his direction and gave a small smile.

Naturally, the cute guy who checked out the blondie behind me had snagged the last Blizzard. I completely understood her flushed face. Underneath his black snapback were thick, dark brown curls. He was laughing, smiling as he put a spoonful of my Cotton Candy Blizzard into his mouth. His cutoff shirt displayed an impressive set of abs and a deep summer tan.

I rolled my eyes and quickly shifted my attention to the register girl. “I’ll have an Oreo Blizzard.”

Katie laughed when the guy across the counter handed me my ice cream. My look of disappointment must’ve been that noticeable.

We chose a table in the back, away from the hustle and bustle of the waiting line. We walked behind the snapback guy, and Katie’s eyes widened when I tapped him on the shoulder.

“I hope you enjoy every bite of that Blizzard.” I giggled. “You got the very last one.”

Chapter2

Jaxon

She had pretty blue eyes.

It looked like she had just rolled out of bed. Her hair was up, and she wore a faded T-shirt. I could tell it was one she wore often. She stood out from all the other girls who wanted to make a good Opening Weekend impression.

My eyes narrowed, and I swallowed my last bite. “My bad. What did you end up with?”

“Oreo.” She shrugged and walked away. Her friend followed closely behind her, laughing as she took a bite of her ice cream.

Without a second thought, I shifted and turned around to face her. “Do you want my lid?”

I finished my question just as she sat down at her table. She hesitated to take my offer, but I could tell she was thinking about it. I studied her body language and met her gaze. I made her nervous but not worried enough that she couldn’t hold her own.

I raised my eyebrows, and she rested her chin in her hand. A dimple formed in her right cheek, and I knew I was in. It was a tell-tale sign that girls gave me when they thought I was attractive, which was often. It made for an easy connection if I ever ran into them in the future and wanted to take them home.

“Hey, baby.” Heather smiled and sat down across from me.

I got up and didn’t even acknowledge her coming to the table. I hated when she called me that, especially in public. It made it seem like we were together when she was just something I did on the weekends.

Blue Eyes slid her lid to the edge of her table, and I handed her mine. I couldn’t help but smile when her eyes lit up at the sight of the pink ice cream.

Her friend looked me up and down. “You were serious?”

“You were serious,” Blue Eyes repeated. She sounded much more surprised than her friend. She took a bite and shook her shoulders in a dancing motion. “If I see you out this weekend, I totally owe you a drink.”

“Sounds good.” I smiled and turned around before she could say anything else. The interaction between us was just enough. Drinks were a common currency in Bowling Green, and now she had a reason to approach me if she saw me out this weekend. It never worked against me to start the night out with options.

I sat down at the table with Heather and heard Blue Eyes laugh with her friend behind me. Heather tugged on her pink tank top and threw her braid behind her shoulder. We weren’t the only two at our table, but with the awkward silence that followed my ice cream offer, it sure seemed that way.

“You know her?” my best friend, Bryson, asked. He sat next to Heather, and a girl I didn’t recognize sat next to him. Our other roommates, Jared and Connor, were also at the table.

“No, I don’t.” I shrugged and set the lid full of ice cream on the table in front of me.

Heather’s lips formed a hard line, and Bryson laughed, shaking his head.

This was how we both played the game—getting in with girls, keeping some around, and leaving no strings attached. It had been that way since our first year on campus when we lived in the dorms, and junior year would be no different.
