Maci unscrewed the cap of the vodka and poured it into two glasses. She hovered over the third glass and looked at Katie. “Are you having one?”

Katie sighed and took a bite of the crescent roll and buffalo chicken dip concoction she had on her plate. “I suppose.”

Maci smiled and caught me staring at her as she poured into Katie’s glass. She liked having her brother here, and I liked seeing her so carefree and happy. Somehow, it made her even sexier.

I got up from the couch, and before I made a plate of food, I grabbed a beer from the fridge. I wasn’t expecting to drink tonight, but I was okay with the mood shift. I was getting way too invested in the rich kid show on TV.

“Babe, this is amazing,” Connor said with his mouthful.

Everyone nodded in support of his comment.

“Thanks.” Katie beamed and took a sip of her cocktail.

“So, what’s it like here on a Thursday night?” Chase asked Maci. Half of his drink was already gone, and I had a feeling he would be requesting a second soon.

“This.” Maci giggled. “Katie cooks, I do homework, and Connor and Jaxon come over to get free food.”

“I work for that food.” Connor shrugged, and Katie slapped him on the shoulder.

I nudged Maci’s arm. “I used to buy you breakfast.”

She smirked. “Used to. Key words there, my friend.” She shoved the last bite of food from her plate into her mouth and got up to go into the kitchen.

I turned on the couch to face her while she walked away. Her ass looked fantastic, and I had already lost my train of thought when she turned around and noticed me staring at her for the second time tonight.

“I owe you . . .” I counted back in my head. “Three-morning coffees then.”

She frowned when she realized I was accurate in my tally. It was a huge shift from last semester.

“Fine.” She shrugged and returned to the couch next to me. “It's a date, Jaxon Hayes.”

“There’s that full name again.” I rolled my eyes and got up to get another beer. I noticed Chase’s empty glass. “You want another one, man?”

“Absolutely,” he said without hesitation.

Connor held up his empty can. “Me too.”

“Another one?” Katie asked Connor after I handed him a beer. She sounded surprised.

I watched them go back and forth in the playful bickering way they always did. I shook my head and backed into the kitchen to make Chase another drink.

Maci’s lips brushed against my ear. “Not too strong, okay?”

The hair on my neck stood up as her warm breath flew across my skin. I glanced down at her, and she smiled just as she took a sip of her drink.

“You look like you’re up to no good,” I said slyly and turned my body so I faced her.

She studied my face for a moment, and I watched her eyes linger on my chest. They made their way back up to mine, and I swallowed. The last time she looked at me like that was when we were standing on a street corner, and she was taking me back to the bedroom down the hall.

“Not tonight.” Her lips formed a small half-smile. “If I drink too much, my therapy session might come out too early.”

I glanced into the living room and back at her. “Chase?” I whispered.

She nodded and took another drink. She set the empty glass on the table and reached behind her to grab a beer from the fridge.

“So Bud Light is the safer choice, huh?” I teased.

She watched me pour Chase’s drink, and I caught her smiling. If the reel in her head matched mine, we were both in her bedroom picking up where we left off . . . when she was on top of me.
