“But the song’s not over.” Lizzie whined.

“You’ll live.” Ellie prayed that was true. She loved Lizzie like a sister. If something happened to her…

The waitress bustled over.“Can I get you girls something?”

“An Angel Shot, neat.” Ellie blurted.

“Oooh, girlfriend, I like the sound of that. I’ll have one, too.” Lizzie handed the waitress the empty popcorn bowl. “And some more of this, please.”

Wait, didn’t neat mean you needed an escort to your car? This was so much more than that. This was an emergency, five-alarm situation. She needed the cavalry. And she needed them now. “I’ve changed my mind. I’ll have an Angel Shot with a lime, please.”

“A lime?” The waitress’s eyes went wide. “Don’t move. I’ll be right back.”

“Wow.” Lizzie watched their waitress rush to the bar. “That girl sure knows how to hustle.”

Ellie held her breath, praying she’d remembered the right drink codes. When she saw the bartender hoist himself over the counter and head straight towards her, panic bloomed in her chest. What was she going to say when he asked her what was wrong? The truth?

As he got closer, his blue eyes scorched her skin with their laser focus. “You order the Angel Shot with lime?”

“Yes.” Ellie’s mouth was so dry, she could barely get it to work. Colt slid into the booth next to her, which caused her brain to go back on the fritz. The man was sinfully handsome, smelled of Obsession and had a look on his face that was savage.

“What’s your name?”

Ellie’s heart was pounding so loudly, she was certain he could hear it. “Ellie.”

“Ellie what?” He snapped.

“I told you, Ell. Personality of a bear.” Lizzie smacked Colt on the arm. “In the human world, bear-man, a real man sits down and says hello, along with something like, it’s nice to meet you.”

“Not now, Lizzie.” Colt growled. His eyes cut back to Ellie. “Where’s the threat?”

“Threat?” Lizzie laughed. “The only threat in this room is you. Have you looked in the mirror lately? You look like you just gargled a box of nails.”

“Zip it, Lizzie.” Colt snapped. “Your friend is in trouble.”

“Trouble?” Lizzie’s eyes went wide. “Ellie, what is he talking about?”

Ellie spun around, searching the crowd for Pitbull and Spike. They were gone.

“Sorry, I thought I saw someone. But I was wrong.”

“Wrong?” Colt squinted his steel blue eyes. “No one orders an Angel Shot with lime by accident.”

“What is he talking about, Ell?” Lizzie put her hand on her arm. “He’s scaring me.”

The screaming on the inside of Ellie’s skull was deafening.Way to go, Einstein. You’ve put Lizzie in danger. They know where you are. They’re going to kill you or do things to you that are so awful, you’llbegthem to kill you! You have to get out of Graceport. Fast.

“An Angel Shot with lime is a drink you order when you need someone to call 9-1-1 for you.” Colt kept his eyes locked on Ellie.

“Is that right?” Lizzie grabbed Ellie’s hand. “Are you in trouble?”

She squeezed Lizzie’s hand, holding back tears. Now that the Barracudas knew where she was, there was only one thing she could do. Leave town. And before she did, she was going to tell Lizzie the truth. But not in front of Colt.

“This is all a big misunderstanding. I thought I saw a guy from the Most Wanted on the dance floor. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble.”

“Phew.” Lizzie sighed. “Bear-man had me scared for a minute.”

“Your friend is lying.” Colt held Ellie’s gaze. “Aren’t you, angel?”
