Colt turned the monitor around. “I think this is what happened.”

Serenity’s eyes got big. “That is an ugly, scary biker dude. Where’s he from? He’s not one of the Patriot Riders. They have American flags on their jackets. And they’re a bunch of really great men. That guy looks like he belongs in prison.”

“There were two of them. But they left right after we called the police. I checked the parking lot cameras. They’re long gone.”

“Which leads me to believe they were listening to a police scanner somehow.”

Colt smiled at Serenity, in awe. “When did you get so smart?”

“I’ve always been this smart. You just don’t always pay attention.” Serenity came behind the bar and started checking the liquor stock. “She’s pretty, isn’t she?”

“Who?”

“The girl Zak’s dry humping with his eyes.”

Do not turn around. Don’t do it.

Colt turned around and cursed under his breath.

“Here. Take these to Zak.” Serenity slapped the pictures in his hand.

“No. He’ll come over when he’s done.”

Serenity flipped up the bar countertop. “Go.”

Colt glared down at her. “I said, no.”

“Fine.” She shrugged. “If you want your brother to be her chivalrous knight in blue, stay right where you are. But if you like her, get your ass in gear and march over to that table.”

“I never said I liked her.”

“You don’t have to.” She smiled. “I’m a girl. We know these things.”

“You’re fired.” Colt snapped, as he walked past her.

“I want a raise!” She called out.

“When hell freezes over.” He growled.

Colt walked past tables, nodding at the customers, while keeping his eyes on Ellie. She was smiling at Zak. He flinched, as she tipped her head back and laughed.

“Thank you, officer. This was all a misunderstanding.”

Misunderstanding? Bullshit.

Colt stood next to his brother, holding out the pictures. “This is what scared her.”

“Barracudas? They’re a biker gang out of Jersey.” Zak eyed the photos. “You know these guys?”

“No.” Ellie shook her head. “I’ve never seen them before. We want to go home now.”

“Alright, drive safe.” Zak tucked his notepad away. “It was a pleasure meeting you, Ellie. You have my number. Call me any time.” He put his arm around Colt’s shoulders. “You got a minute, brother?”

“Sure.” He nodded.

“Hang on.” Zak swiveled around. “Let me walk the girls to their car. I’ll be right back.”

Colt gritted his teeth, as he watched Zak leave with Lizzie on one side and Ellie on the other. Why hadn’t he thought to do that? Angry at his stupidity, he stayed right where he was and counted to a thousand, while he waited for his brother to return.
