Pulling back, I slammed forward, watching her carefully. My wildcat was still getting used to my size. But she lifted her hips, tightening her legs around me, urging me on.

My mouth found her nipple, and I bit down gently. It was enough to make her stiffen.

“Lorian…”

Fuck, I loved it when she said my name in that needy tone.

“Something you want, Prisca?”

She glared up at me and I laughed, but the sound was choked. I trailed kisses up her neck, pounding into her. She let out a tiny whimper, her pussy clamping down around me as she shuddered in my arms. I sucked in a breath, thrust deep, and followed her over.

I hadn’t thought about what we would wear to meet the Gromalian king.

Thankfully, Lorian and Telean had. This explained where they’d disappeared to yesterday afternoon while both Asinia and I had napped.

The dress fit perfectly. Intricate embroidery adorned the bodice, tendrils of silver thread weaving across it. The flowing sleeves draped elegantly from my shoulders, while the skirt was somehow both conservative and daring. Voluminous layers of fabric parted, the high slit revealing a hint of thigh with my every step.

But some kind of unusual material had been inserted into the bodice, making it stiff and uncomfortable. I was frowning and wrestling with the dress when Lorian walked in.

“You look beautiful. What’s wrong?”

“There’s something stiff in here.”

“It’s a fae material that repels iron. I had it sewn into the dress.”

I stopped pulling on the bodice and glanced up. “You think someone will try to stab me in the Gromalian castle?”

He looked vaguely offended. “Of course not. Or you wouldn’t be going.”

I folded my arms. “Try that again.”

He gave me a smile he likely thought was charming. In reality, it was wicked and just a little smug.

“I don’t want any surprises. This way, if anyone tries to stab you in the back, before either I can get to you or you can use your power, you’ll be safe.”

I opened my mouth, and he raised one eyebrow. “I had it sewn into Asinia’s and Telean’s gowns as well. Asinia isn’t happy. She says it’s too uncomfortable and she’ll only wear it if you do.”

And he’d outmaneuvered me yet again. I squinted at him. “Where’syourarmor?”

His mouth twitched, and I sighed. Hewasarmor. No one would dare attack me with him by my side.

“Fine.”

He leaned close. “You look very regal.”

“Is that right?”

“Yes. I want to lift up that dress and—”

“The carriage is here,” Asinia called.

Lorian sighed. I stepped back and took a look at him.

Unsurprisingly, he wore black. He’d once told me it was because it hid bloodstains. His doublet was cut from a rich material that seemed to drink in the light, the silver detailing similar to mine. Beneath the doublet, he wore a black silken shirt, which was tucked into his breeches. My gaze got stuck on his muscular thighs before tapering down to his polished black leather boots.

My mouth watered.
