Part of me wanted to go back inside and keep Lana company, but I knew that would be walking a fine line.

I decided to head home and gave Lana a last look through the restaurant windows. And what I saw made my blood boil.

LANA

“Hey beautiful. You look lonely. Who’s keeping you waiting?” I turned toward the voice to see a man next to me. He was good looking, maybe in his mid-thirties, and probably into his fourth or fifth drink, judging by his glassy eyes. He leaned in, his shoulder touching mine.

“I’m just waiting for my boyfriend,” I replied leaning away, hoping he’d take the hint and leave me alone.

It didn’t work. He glanced around and leaned in even closer.

“Sorry to break it to you sweetheart, but I don’t think he’s going to show,” he smirked. “But whoever he is, he’s an idiot for keeping a gorgeous thing like you waiting around.”

This guy was giving me the total creeps. But I had to agree with him on the part about the idiot keeping me waiting.

Todd was now running over thirty minutes late. He texted me five minutes ago, saying he was about to leave, so I decided to give him another ten minutes to get here.

“Let me buy you a drink,” he said, his gaze dropping down to my cleavage.

I huffed in annoyance.

“No, thank you. I’d like to be alone if you don’t mind.” I turned my head in the other direction.

“Aw, come on. I promise to be on good behavior.” He slid his hand up my arm. I flinched away, getting ready to tell him to fuck off.

Just then, I felt a firm hand wrap around my waist and a kiss on my temple. I felt a mix of surprise and relief as I realized Todd had finally shown up.

“Hey babe, sorry I kept you waiting,” said a deep voice that sounded nothing like Todd.

And I knew that voice. Dylan.

I whipped my head around to see Dylan’s hand shoving the man away from me.

“Who’s your friend?” Dylan glared as the man stumbled back.

“Oh, hi,” I said, shooting him a grateful look. “He was just leaving.”

Taking the hint, the man backed off with his hands raised.

"No problem, I’m going," he muttered.

As soon as he was gone, I let out a nervous laugh.

"Thanks. He would not take a hint."

Dylan didn’t move from where he stood glued to me, his arm still around my waist. He watched the man until he disappeared around the corner.

His eyes finally shifted down to me, his face just inches from mine.

"That guy was a jerk,” he said, letting his hand slip away.

“Yeah, just looking for a hookup. Guess I looked like an easy target, sitting at a bar alone for so long,” I said.

Dylan’s jaw twitched as he shook his head.

"No Todd yet?" he asked, taking the stool next to me.
