“Yeah,” he replied, closing his fingers over mine.

“I love chocolate.”

I hopped off the stool and let Dylan lead me out of the restaurant.

Dylan and I walked over to a restaurant nearby called Marcella’s. It was a charming little Italian place with a mellow vibe.

We ate dinner as we chatted and caught up. The server came to clear our plates and asked if we wanted dessert.

“Have you ever tried a brookie explosion?” Dylan asked, turning to me.

I narrowed my eyes and smiled. “No, I haven’t. What is it?”

His face went deadpan.

“What is it? Only the best thing you’ll ever taste. It’s life changing.”

I laughed as Dylan put in the order with our server.

“So, how’s the dating scene these days?” I asked, regretting immediately after I’d said it.

I wasn’t sure if I even wanted to know his answer. I assumed his divorce was final and now he was officially back on the market, dating around.

Dylan chuckled, “I wouldn’t know. I’m not really in the scene. Today was my first date.”

I rolled my lips, secretly happy that he wasn’t dating.

“What happened with your date tonight?” I asked. “I thought she was beautiful and smart. And I know you must have had her charmed.”

He watched me, running his fingers along his jaw. I squirmed under his intense gaze.

“She wasn’t my type,” he replied, the corner of his lips turning up.

I rolled my eyes and scoffed. “You don’t like beautiful and smart women?”

He laughed, his eye crinkling in the corners.

“Of course, I do. I know one, in fact. She’s perfect,” he said, his smile softening. “But she’s taken.”

I inhaled deeply as I bit my lower lip. Our gazes stayed locked on each other for a moment.

Just then, the server brought our dessert. My eyes went wide as I took in the impressive dessert. It was fresh baked brownies and chocolate chip cookies swirled together, served warm in a pan, topped with a heaping scoop of ice cream.

We each took a forkful, but Dylan waited, watching me as I took a bite.

“Wow,” I said, covering my mouth as I savored the rich flavors. “Just wow. That’s amazing.”

Dylan raised his eyebrows and a huge grin spread across his handsome face.

He was right. It was one of the best things I’d ever tasted. Rich, decadent, warm gooeyness.

I took another bite and closed my eyes.

“Mmm. So good,” I said, as I exhaled slowly.

When I opened my eyes, Dylan was staring at me, his eyes slightly hooded. He licked his lips.
