She didn’t wait for a reply, she just turned on her heel and left.

Kenzie watched her go. Looking down at the table, she noticed Sorcha had only taken a few bites from her sandwich. She couldn’t imagine what she’d gone through, but her heart was broken for her. She decided right then that she would become her friend.

Kenzie figured she could use a friend right about now too. She wasn’t ready for a mate, but maybe someone who didn’t put pressure on her. Someone who could just make her laugh and show her how to enjoy life again. She determined that she would be that person for Sorcha.

Just as Kenzie was turning back toward the guys, she caught movement out of the corner of her eye. When she turned, there was a tall, gorgeous woman dropping into Aiden’s lap.

Kenzie watched Aiden lean back in surprise, his hands going to her hips.

Before she realized what she was doing she was standing and took a step closer to them ready to attack the woman. But before she could grab the woman’s perfectly styled blonde hair and snatch her right off Aiden’s lap, she suddenly went flying to the ground as Aiden stood.

He held his hands in the air as if trying to calm Kenzie. It was then she realized she was growling, and her whole body had started trembling.

She took several deep breaths, trying to calm down. Ignoring the banshee shrieks coming from the woman on the ground, she got herself under control.

Then just glared at Aiden, waiting for an explanation.

She rolled her eyes as the woman finally got to her feet again, and thankfully stopped shrieking. Then a second woman walked out of the back door of the house, who looked exactly like the first. She came to a stop right next to her banshee twin.

Though, the banshee was focused on Aiden, twin number two was focused on her brother, who finally decided to join the party.

Standing Marshall walked over and put a hand on Aiden’s shoulder, “You should probably say something now if you want to keep your balls.”

Aiden dropped his hands, apparently realizing she wasn’t going to attack him. Then he sighed and said, “Kenzie, this is Annabelle and Genevieve. Anabelle is the one who sat on my lap. I had sex with her once, just once, and now she won’t go away. No matter how many times I tell her I am not interested. Marshall is pretty much in the same situation with Genevieve. They are our own personal leeches. But I assure you, there is nothing and will never be anything going on with her.”

The exact same look of outrage appeared on both women’s faces, then at the exact same time they said, “You fucking bastard!”

Kenzie lost it. She busted out laughing. They were like robots. They looked exactly the same, down to the perfect hair with not a strand out of place. They were even dressed in the same miniskirts, blouses and stilettos, just in different colors. The one who sat on Aiden was in red and the other wore blue.

It was honestly a little creepy how they talked at the exact same time. They were so thin she was surprised the light breeze hadn’t blown them over yet. But they were gorgeous in that, symmetrical, almost too perfect kind of way.

She looked back at Aiden and Marshall, “You should probably be pickier about who you sleep with next time.”

Then she headed back towards the house, the sound of both women yelling loudly behind her. She didn’t listen to what they had to say; she didn’t care to know.

Kenzie headed for her room. She knew the council was about to arrive and had no interest in seeing anyone else right now. She needed to lay down and take a long nap. The events of the day had worn her out and it was only 3:30 in the afternoon. There was supposed to be a big feast or party tonight for the council, but she wasn’t sure she was up for it. She might just sleep through the whole thing.

When she got back to her room, Fiona came running up to her. Kenzie leaned down to pick her up and carried her with her to the bedroom. Then she kicked off her shoes and laid down, fully clothed with Fiona curling up next to her.

Then she just laid there thinking.

Apparently, she had magic. Aiden apparently slept around, witches existed, and there was a council she knew nothing about.

Maybe it wasn’t fair to say Aiden slept around, and even if they were supposed to be mates, there wasn’t anything official between them. Being jealous was absurd.

She didn’t want to talk to Aiden or Marshall, so reached out to Christopher instead.

“Hey, Christopher? Can I ask you a question?”

He replied immediately.“Of course, what’s up?”

“Can you tell me about the council?”

There was a slight pause, then, “The council is like our government. They create our laws and see to it that they are upheld. The council is not just werewolves, it is made up of the three factions of civilized supernaturals. Witches, werewolves and vampires. There are two members from each species on the council, and together they keep order.”

“Vampires?”Oh jeez. This world was getting too big for her. She wasn’t sure how much more she could learn before her head exploded.

When Christopher replied she could hear the amusement in his voice. “Yes, vampires. We have a treaty with both species to keep the peace. A long time ago there was a war that shook the world. We were almost exposed. There were rumors and superstitions, and our people were hunted. So, after that, the council was formed to make sure that kind of thing never happens again.”
