She gave him a small smile, “Cassie is like a ray of sunshine, isn’t she? I could sort of feel it when she hugged me. She felt warm.”

The way she said it sounded like more than just a normal observation. He took her hand and turned her to face him, “What do you mean, you could feel it?”

She gave a half shrug and ran her other hand up his arm. As her fingers gently grazed his skin, he felt a tingling sensation. He couldn’t tell if it was just from her touch, or something more. But it gave him goosebumps, the kind you feel in your stomach. He wanted to throw her over his shoulder and carry her up to his room.

Then she spoke and it was like a cold shower, “I’m starting to feel things when I’m near people. Like, their emotions and personalities. I can’t read their minds or anything crazy like that, just feelings. Like, I can tell you were turned on when I touched you. And I can see our colors kind of mix together. It’s really pretty. You’re a deep forest green and I’m a soft magenta, almost purple.” He was a bit stunned. He looked over at Marshall to ask his thoughts, only to notice he had been listening. He was studying his sister, like he was waiting for something to happen. So, Aiden asked him, “Do you feel anything like that?”

He shook his head with a disappointed look on his face, “No. Nothing. Apparently, I’m a slow bloomer.”

Then William leaned forward, “What exactly am I missing here?”

Well shit. Guess the cat was out of the bag. Kenzie let out a little gasp, “Oops.”

Chris turned to his long-time friend, “There is something we forgot to mention and perhaps you will have a little insight.” As Chris filled him in, Aiden turned back to Kenzie.

“By colors, are you saying you can see a person’s aura?” He knew a few things about auras, and that’s what this sounded like. His mom was into all that new age stuff, and she was always talking about aligning auras and chakras or something.

“Auras! Yes, that’s exactly it! It just started a few minutes ago, but so far, it’s kind of pretty. It’s like little walking rainbows. But I don’t know what it all means yet.” Then she gave him a weird look, cocking her head to the side a little like she was studying him, “I can feel your emotions Aiden, and you’re worried. I thought you wanted us to try and figure out our powers?”

He squeezed her hand and scooted closer, their legs touching now, “I do Kenz. I’m just worried because we don’t know how to control it. If you can see and feel everything, it’s going to start bombarding you. We need to find a way for you to control it and block it when you don’t need it.”

She gave him a thoughtful look, then smiled. She leaned over and gently kissed him on the cheek, “I didn’t think of that. Thank you for caring so much.”

Before he could say anything, Jordan came running up to their table. He went straight to Marshall and leaned over to whisper something in his ear. Marshall stood abruptly, then motioned for Aiden to follow.

He kissed Kenzie’s cheek then stood, “We’ll be right back.”

He rushed to catch up to Marshall, who was headed for the barn, “What’s going on?”

“Jordan and the men caught one of the wolves from earlier.” Marshall almost snarled the words.

Aiden picked up the pace. If they caught one, they could find out what they wanted with Kenzie. Then they could make the son of a bitch pay for hurting her. He could feel himself getting worked up. He was breathing too heavily, and knew he needed to chill out or he was going to shift.

As they got to the door of the barn, he took several deep breaths to calm himself. When he was finally under control, he looked over to see Marshall waiting patiently for him. Nodding to tell him he was good, he pulled the door open, and walked in.

The barn had a door behind the equipment room that led to a set of stairs that would take you below the barn. There were cells down there for the rare occasions when they needed to lock up a wolf.

Thankfully they had a good pack, and few pushed the boundaries so much that they would need to be locked up. Everyone had a healthy respect for Marshall as the Alpha, and they knew he would not put up with troublemakers.

This was the first time they’d used it in years.

As they came out of the stairway, they could hear a loud commotion. When they rounded the corner to the cells, they could see one of them had the dark brown wolf in it. This was the wolf that Sorcha had called Dimitri.

Jordan was standing on the outside with a cattle prod. He was trying to get Dimitri to shift back but he was being stubborn, or maybe smart. They couldn’t make him talk if he was a wolf.

There were two other guards with Jordan, Gage and Gabriel. Twin brothers who were a deadly pair when they needed to be. They were amazing fighters on their own, but when together, they were unbeatable. It was like poetry watching them fight.

They were also really good friends of Aiden’s family. They were neighbors growing up and his mom was best friends with theirs.

Marshall stood next to them, gazing at the angry wolf, “How did you catch him?”

It was Gage who answered, “The idiots tried to sneak back in when the party started. Like they thought we would slack on security or something. Aside from the fact that we don’t ever slack off, with the council here and the attack earlier we doubled up. They didn’t have a chance. Unfortunately, the second one got away somehow. It was almost like he disappeared. But we cornered this one and took him down easily.”

Gabriel pulled something from his pocket and handed it to Marshall. Marshall held it up so Aiden could see that it was another stone necklace.

“We took this off him. Same as the dead wolf.”

Marshall nodded, “Great job.”
