Marshall obviously wasn’t going to say anything else about the stone as he shoved it into his own pocket.

They watched as Jordan prodded the caged wolf again. Dimitri growled but still would not change back. He was strong, Aiden had to give him that. But he was also wounded. There were several slashes and bites all over his body, and it had to be sapping his energy trying to heal. Soon, he would be too exhausted to stay a wolf. His body would force him to shift back.

That was one of their weaknesses. Werewolves, because they are made from the magic of witches, have the same weakness. Shifting drains their energy if they stay in their wolf forms too long. That’s why they are always hungry after a shift. They also can’t sustain it forever. If they are not wounded and take it easy, they may get a few days if necessary. But after a while, they are forced to shift back whether they want to or not.

Marshall put a hand on Jordan’s shoulder before he could prod the wolf again, “Let him be. He will not voluntarily shift back. He is hurt so we will wait him out.”

Aiden looked between the three men, checking for any injuries, “Are any of you hurt?”

The twins shook their heads and Jordan answered, “Not a scratch. This one isn’t so tough when someone his own size fights back.”

“Good.” He was glad they were all okay, “Have the Dobbins brothers come in and guard him. You guys get back out on patrol.”

“Yes Beta.” Jordan put the cattle prod on the rack on the wall and headed for the door. The other two would stay until the Dobbins brothers got here then they would head back.

Marshall stepped up to the bars of the cell that Dimitri was in. “You made a mistake coming back here. You will tell us everything we want to know, or we will make you.”

Then he turned and walked out. Aiden took an extra second to look at the wolf, the coward who had hurt Kenzie and Sorcha. He was calmer than he thought he would be, seeing him there. Knowing Dimitri would suffer wolf justice made him feel better. They would question him, then his life would be forfeited.

He followed Marshall out. When he exited the stairway, William and Chris were both standing there, and it looked like Marshall was filling them in.

When he approached, Marshall turned to him, “With his injuries, he should change back by morning at the latest. We will question him then. There’s nothing we can do until then, so let’s go enjoy the party.”

That sounded good. He was still hungry and was really looking forward to convincing Kenzie to dance.

Kenzie

As the guys walked away, Cassie and Sorcha sat down at the table across from her. Sorcha looked a bit unsure of whether she wanted to be here or not, but Cassie looked absolutely perky.

“Kenzie, you’ve met Sorcha, right?” She asked.

She took a quick sip of water to wash down the food she was chewing. She wondered why people always talked to you when your mouth was full, “Yes, we met earlier. It’s nice to see you again. Are you having a good time?”

Sorcha shrugged while looking down at her plate, “Yes, it’s a lovely day.”

After speaking, Sorcha started pushing her food around on the plate, occasionally taking a small bite. If you weren’t paying attention, it would actually seem like she was eating, but the tiny bites she took did nothing to diminish the food on her plate.

She wanted to say something but decided that probably wasn’t the best idea. At least she was eating a little bit.

“So, Kenzie,” Cassie drew her attention, “Are you going to stay here now?”

“Yes, I think so. Marshall set me up in the pack house and I did pledge to the pack, so I guess I’m here for good.”

Cassie started bouncing in her seat, “Oh my gosh! This is going to be so great! Do you know how to fight? Cause you should totally train with me. I never get to fight with other girls.”

“Why not?” She would love to learn how to fight, and if Cassie was willing to teach her, even better. Kenzie didn’t really want to fight with a big guy who was just going to kick her butt every time.

Cassie gave her a sheepish look, “Well, there aren’t that many female guards. And the girls who aren’t guards don’t want to fight with me because I always win.”

Kenzie grinned, “So, what you’re saying is, you’re a badass.”

She smiled back, “I totally am! I even beat most of the guys.”

“Could you teach me? I honestly can’t fight at all except a little self-defense, so I would love to learn.” She hoped Marshall would be okay with it, but either way she would still do it. She didn’t need permission.

When Chris spoke, it surprised her. She had forgotten he was still sitting with them, “I think that is a great idea. You’re small and learning from someone who knows how to fight larger opponents would be perfect. It’s a different style than most fighter’s use. It’ll give you an advantage.”

As he spoke, Cassie was nodding, “I would love to teach you. How about it Sorcha? Wanna join us?”
