Sorcha dropped the fork she was holding, “You… You want me to fight?”

Cassie nodded, “I think it would be good if you knew how to, yes. Even if it is just to be able to defend yourself, every woman should have the ability.”

Sorcha’s face leached of all color. She looked like a scared rabbit about to flee.

It was William who calmed her down, “Sorcha is it?” She nodded and he continued, “Sorcha, Cassie is right. It would be very beneficial for you to learn to fight, to protect yourself. That way no one can ever get the upper hand on you.”

He slowly took her hand, and gently ran his fingers over the scars there. As Kenzie watched them, she saw his eyes soften and Sorcha seemed to relax just a little bit. “My dear, you have too many scars. I would not like for any more to be added.”

He gently kissed her knuckles and placed her hand back on the table.

Then he and Chris both stood up, “If you ladies would please excuse us.”

Chris winked at Kenzie as he walked away without saying anything. The men here were much more observant than she was used to. It seemed there were quite a few people here determined to help Sorcha heal.

Sorcha picked her fork back up and took a slightly larger bite than she had been taking before. When she finished chewing, she said quietly, “I think I would like to train with you.”

Cassie wiggled in her seat, “Perfect! We will start tomorrow! So, are ya’ll excited for the dancing to start?”

The way Cassie could change the topic so quickly was a bit jarring.

“There’s dancing?” Kenzie loved dancing, but it had been so long she would probably fall on her face. It might be best to sit this one out.

“Of course! What kind of party doesn’t have dancing?” Before she could reply, the men came back to the table and took their seats.

That was fast. She was curious what that was all about but figured they would tell her if they wanted her to know. Since they stayed quiet, she didn’t ask.

Aiden took a bite of his food, which she was sure was cold by now, and turned to her, “Did I hear someone say dancing?”

Kenzie pointed at Cassie, “That was all her. I think I’ll sit the dancing out tonight.”

A small frown crossed Aiden’s face and was gone just as quickly, “Maybe I’ll convince you once it starts.”

He wanted to dance with her? The idea of him holding her in his arms made her all tingly. Well, maybe she could dance with him just once.

She smiled and bumped his shoulder with hers, “Maybe. If you get me a tart.”

He gave her the cutest lopsided grin and hopped right up, “That’s a deal!”

“Wait, I didn’t mean now! You need to eat!” But he was already walking away.

He called over his shoulder, “Be right back.”

Laughing, she watched him walk over to the table with the deserts. She couldn’t see what he was doing but it was taking him longer than it should to grab one tart. When he turned around to head back to the table, she saw he had a huge stack of tarts and other assorted desserts on the plate. She really hoped those weren’t all for her.

He was about halfway back to the table when two people stepped in his way. It was a man and a woman, but she could only see their backs. Both had dark brown hair and were dressed casually. She took another bite of food while she tried to watch them without being obvious.

Cassie leaned close and whispered in her ear, “You know you’re staring, right?”

Surprised, she snapped her attention back to her, “Sorry.”

Marshall chuckled, “She’s just messing with you. That’s Aiden and Cassie’s twins. And it looks like they are coming to join us as well. We are going to need a bigger table soon.”

Aiden dropped back into his seat beside Kenzie and placed the plate full of tarts and other delicious looking desserts in front of her. She also noticed the two people had followed him as they plopped down in the open seats at the end. Seeing them from the front it was easy to tell they were related.

All four of them had the same dark brown hair, blue eyes, high cheeks bones and were tall, even the girls.

“Kenzie, this is my brother Darren and my sister Brianna. My other twins. And this is Mackenzie, Marshall’s sister.” Aiden introduced them, then tucked right into his food.
