Aiden and Kenzie busted out laughing, as they watched Brianna’s face turn a bright shade of red. After a minute of torture, Marshall finally let her go, holding his hands up in surrender as he backed away from her.

Brianna looked like she was about to pounce on him, but before she could, he took off running. Brianna followed, running full out to try and catch him.

Kenzie chuckled as she watched them disappear into the crowd.

Aiden came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her back into him. As she leaned back and rested her head on his chest, she glanced around at all the people now enjoying the party again.

“I’m surprised everyone just went back to the party. Didn’t they think the random use of magic by their Alpha was weird?” She asked Aiden, curious how it could be forgotten so quickly.

She felt Aiden’s shoulders shrug, “Magic, though we do not have it per se, is a part of our lives. Yea, it’s weird that a werewolf just used it, but they all trust Marshall. They know he will tell them what’s going on if they need to know.”

She turned around and wrapped her arms around his waist, “Is that because he’s the Alpha?”

“That’s a big part of it, yes. The other part is that they know him and trust his judgement. He is a good man, and they know that.”

She could understand that. After only knowing him for a very short time, she knew she could trust him with anything.

“Okay. I get it.” As she spoke, she realized how exhausted she really was and how much she was leaning on Aiden to keep herself up. Looking up at his beautiful face, she didn’t want to go. But she was just about dead on her feet, the exhaustion hitting her so suddenly she wanted to fall over.

“I think I need to head to bed now. Do you want to stay out here?” She asked. She was kind of hoping he would walk with her back to the house so they could have a few more minutes together.

Aiden pulled away, then took her hand in his and started leading her toward the pack house, “No, I’m pretty tired myself. Falling into bed sounds amazing. I’ll walk you to your room.”

They were quiet as they walked, not talking, just enjoying each other’s company. He walked her all the way to her room, even though it passed his.

He opened the door for her, but before she walked in, he pulled her close for a brief hug.

“Goodnight sweetheart. Sweet dreams.” He whispered in her ear. Then he lightly kissed her forehead, turned her around and gently nudged her into the room, pulling the door closed behind her.

Chapter 13.

Aiden

Walking away from Kenzie’s room was so hard, but he knew she was exhausted. It had been a long day.

He couldn’t believe he had been at her cabin just this morning. So much had happened in such a short amount of time and he thought they all probably needed to process it for a night.

He was almost at his door when he ran into Marshall.

“Hey man, are you done with the party too?” He asked.

Marshall had been walking with his head down, like he was deep in thought. When Aiden spoke, he glanced up, a look of surprise on his face.

Guess he didn’t expect to run into anyone.

“Sorry,” He rubbed a hand down his face, “I was just heading to bed. I think using magic knocked my energy out.”

Aiden nodded, “Same for Kenzie. I just left her in her room. We need to find someone to help both of you learn how to control your powers, before one of you or someone else gets hurt.”

“I know. I’m going to call Raven in the morning. She should be able to help us.” Marshall sighed, “I don’t know what’s coming but whatever it is, we need to make sure everyone is ready. Especially Kenzie. Brianna told me that Cassie is going to train Kenzie and Sorcha. I’m really glad. It’ll help me worry a little less.”

Aiden studied Marshall for a moment, “You didn’t tell me about her.”

He knew who Aiden was talking about.

Marshall met his eyes for a moment, then looked away, “I didn’t tell anyone about Sorcha. I knew as soon as Jordan brought her into my office. She was covered in dirt and sweat, and thin as a rail. She looked lost. We both knew, but she told me she couldn’t go there. Said she couldn’t be that but hoped we could be friends. I didn’t get it before. She asked for sanctuary, but she wouldn’t tell me where she came from. I let it go. I didn’t want to push.”

“I think that was smart at the time. But now, I think that you have established some trust, maybe she needs some help. She needs to heal but locking herself up in her house isn’t going to do that.” He honestly had no idea what would help, but hoped hanging out with the other women would bring her out a bit.
