Marshall turned away and headed for his room, which was in between Aiden’s and Kenzie’s. “I know. I’m going to do everything I can, and hope between me and the women, we can help her. I think a lot of it will just be time.”

Aiden nodded in agreement, “We’ll see. Get some sleep.”

He grunted a short, “Night.” and went into his room.

Kenzie

Kenzie woke up to a loud knocking on the door.

She might regret moving in here if she was always going to get woken up by someone banging on the door first thing in the morning.

She reluctantly got out of bed and walked slowly to the door.

The banging started again, then, “Come on Kenzie, I can hear you. Pick up the pace!”

She pulled the door open to find Marshall on the other side, and he walked right in, “Get dressed. Dimitri changed and we need to question him. I want you there.”

She motioned to the living room, “Please come right in. Not like I was sleeping or anything. And quit being bossy. Do you want some coffee?”

Marshall faced her, giving her a brief glance that seemed to take in every detail of her bunny covered pajamas. Then with a heavy sigh, he plopped down on the couch.

“I would love some coffee. I’m sorry I barged in. Jordan woke me up about twenty minutes ago. I’m a terrible morning person.” He chuckled a little, “That’s an understatement actually. I hate waking up early.”

She looked around, trying to find a clock, “What time is it?”

“Six thirty am.”

Kenzie had started to walk to the kitchen but at that she spun back around to face him, “Are you insane? I went to bed at like midnight! Get out. I’m going back to sleep.”

“I really am sorry, but it’s important that we find out what the hell is going on as soon as possible. If the other packs are up to something, we need to know.” He sounded almost as put out about it as she was, because of that she turned back to the kitchen.

Coffee was an immediate need. She would get dressed while it brewed.

As she dressed Marshall called to her from the other room, “By the way, Jordan collected your converse from the lake. I’ll leave them out here for you.”

She smiled at the kind gesture. She’d honestly forgotten about her shoes, “Thank you!”

Fifteen minutes later, both armed with a travel mug of coffee, they headed out. She didn’t know where they were going though, so asked, “Do you have a dungeon or something?”

Marshall shook his head in amusement, “Not exactly. Just a few cells. We are going to my office right now. Aiden is meeting us there, then we’ll head down. There is a passage from my office to the cells, which were built under the barn. It’s like a little escape route if we ever need it.”

She wondered why Christopher and Rhiannon hadn’t used it on the night of the attack. She thought about asking but didn’t want to bring it up right then. It was still a sore topic and with going to question Dimitri, she didn’t want to cause emotions to run high.

As Marshall said, Aiden was waiting for them when they got to his office. When they stepped inside, she got that “butterflies in the stomach” feeling again. She was really starting to like it.

Aiden’s eyes immediately locked on her. After a moment he winked, then looked at Marshall.

“Morning. Jordan said Dimitri is thoroughly pissed and spouting off a bunch of threats. So, are we ready to get some answers?” Aiden was smiling, as if the thought of an angry caged werewolf was exciting.

“Isn’t him being mad a bad thing?” She had never questioned anyone before but thought it would be better if they were calm.

Aiden shook his head, “No. If he is mad, he may slip up and tell us more than he intends to. People lash out when they’re mad or in pain. We need to know everything we can from him.”

She really hoped they weren’t going to torture him. She’d seen movies and it always made her stomach churn.

“Okay. Well let’s go get it over with then.”

She followed Marshall through a panel in the wall that pushed open into a dark corridor. Aiden followed behind her, which made her feel a little safer.
