“Yoo hooo! Hey, what are you guys doing?” At the new voice, they released each other and pulled back to see Cassie leaning on the wooden fence that surrounded the training field.

Raven walked over to Cassie, who gave the witch a quick hug, “They are practicing their psychic abilities and playing show and tell.”

Kenzie and Marshall shared a quick smile, then she focused for a second to close the door in her mind again. Then they walked over to join the two women.

“Your aura is a bright green with a white ring. I don’t know what it means, but it’s super pretty.” Kenzie told Cassie.

Raven leaned back against the railing, “If I remember correctly, I believe green is usually social, kind, nurturing and outgoing. A people person basically, very open. Which suits you. The white ring just indicates a werewolf.”

Well, that made sense. All the wolves she had seen so far seemed to have the ring, if witches had stars, she wondered what distinguished other species. She was curious to explore it more.

Cassie smiled and did a little dance, “Yup! That’s totally accurate! So, are you guys done? I haven’t seen Raven in forever! I was hoping we could have a girl’s night. And don’t worry about not training this morning, Marshall told me ya’ll were busy. So, girls’ night?”

Cassie gave Marshall a pleading look, which he totally fell for. He waved them off, “Go on. We were just finishing for the day. You are now free to frolic.”

“So, what is a girl’s night? Other than hanging out with my mom, I don’t think I’ve ever had one.”

Both women gave Kenzie a wide-eyed stare, their mouths hanging open. Cassie finally said, “Seriously?”

“Like, never?” asked Raven.

Marshall had already started back toward the pack house. She motioned for Raven and Cassie to head that way. Following along beside them, she explained, “I was very shy when I was in school. Especially after I got my wolf. My mom home schooled me for that first year after I changed just in case. I didn’t have a lot of control at the beginning, and I was terrified I would shift in front of someone. So, I kind of isolated myself. Once I went back, I made a few friends, but I rarely hung out with anyone outside of school.”

She finally reached the open section of the training circle and Cassie slung one of her arms around her shoulder.

“Well girl, we are going to go all out and have a major girl’s night. We are going to grab Sorcha too!” She sounded so excited, and honestly, Kenzie was a little giddy about it too. It was something she’d always wanted to do.

She was starting to think she may have missed out on a lot by not being raised here. Even thinking that made her feel like she was betraying her mom though. Kenzie knew she wouldn’t mind and would tell her to enjoy it, but she missed her. She would have loved something like this.

Suddenly she was angry. Her mom should have been here.

Someone took her hand, and she looked over to see that it was Raven, and Cassie’s arm was still slung around her shoulders.

Raven said, “I get what your feeling, but she would want you to be happy. You must keep living, or her being gone is for nothing. Remember how much she loved you and try to let the rest go.” She gave her an apologetic look, “I didn’t mean to pry, sometimes strong thoughts just slip in.”

She nodded and tried to smile, “Okay. So, what are we doing?”

Thankfully Raven let it go.

“First, you are going to take a shower because you’re wet. I mind-linked Sorcha. She’s going to meet us in the kitchen for some food in a half hour. Then we have a quick errand to run.” Cassie was practically skipping now.

Kenzie glanced down at herself, just then remembering that she took a little swim. She smiled. Raven was right. Her mom wouldn’t want her to keep beating herself up. She was going to try to be better about that.

About twenty minutes later, she was showered, dressed, and starving. When they got to the kitchen, Marilyn was helping Sorcha lay out a bunch of food. The smells were mouthwatering. After using so much magic, she was ravenous, especially since she hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast.

There were hamburgers and hot dogs, potato and macaroni salad, bags of chips, and everything to fix a salad.

“Hey! I wasn’t sure what everyone would want so Marilyn helped me. Is this okay?” Sorcha seemed nervous but eager.

Kenzie walked up and slipped her arm through Sorcha’s, “Thank you for doing all of this, both of you. Everything looks amazing!” Sorcha gave her a beaming smile; the second Kenzie had seen where she looked truly happy.

She thought, just maybe, they could help her find happiness here.

Cassie immediately started to dig in, “I second that. I’m so hungry I could eat a whole cow.”

Kenzie noticed she had three burgers on her plate. She laughed, “With that many burgers, you’re already halfway there!”

Raven chucked a paper plate at her head, “Like you two are any better. You werewolves eat so much it’s bonkers! Even when I spend an entire day working on a spell, I can’t eat as much as you guys.”
